I may have been a little harsh to **eschereal** and I apologise for my tone, but not for the content. I take name changes very seriously. Sometimes a person changes their name for work. Sometimes it’s in celebration (adoption, marriage). And sometimes it’s to leave an emotionally painful chapter of their life behind. Whatever reason, it’s usually done with sober consideration and worthy of our respect. Would you disrespect a friend by capriciously using their old name? Would you continue to call a women who has gotten out of an abusive relationship by her married name? Would you deadname a transgendered person? Then why do it to someone in the public eye? It is a fact that the man started his life with a different name and since he went on to public prominence that fact is deemed significant. But to actually call him by his old name (a name, I repeat, he never used himself) is nothing but disrespectful. His name is Gerald Rudolph Ford. ---

Doesn’t banning, well, anyone, put them on shaky legal ground? As I understand it, if you don’t moderate any content on your network, then you can call yourself a “common carrier”, and not be held liable for, oh, say, incitements to violence: You didn’t take them down because you don’t take anything down. But as soon as you moderate anything at all, you lose that status, and can be held legally liable for whatever you host. ---

Its a way for people with a large social media presence to monetize their influence by selling endorsements. So they might have a post about Evil Biden rays that turn your babies gay, along with the statement that only Reynolds brand aluminum foil can keep them out, along with a link that will give them credit for any sale of Reynold’s wrap purchased by one of their followers. ---

Just so we’re clear, parler is composed people who are perfectly happy to give up their SS# and drivers license information to a perfect stranger, but object to the burden or including a special character in their passwords. If I was an identity thief I know where I would start hunting. ---
