Both @Beckdawrek and @flatlined have talked about the problem and danger posed by feral pigs, so it is a thing. In the South and Southwest. Not so much in, say New England or the Midwest. ---

You certainly don’t need a AR-15 to kill a feral hog. A good rifle, like I use is sufficient. A clean head shot will do the job. ---

That’s assuming you can make a clean head shot. I’ve shot rifles, but against a charging feral pig I’d want something that put out a wall of lead and hope nothing important was behind it. Knowing this, I avoid areas where I might run into a feral pig. ---
