Much has already been said about DeSantis’ reworking of Florida schools, but I just wanted Dopers to get ready for an upcoming holiday he’s created: [Victims of Communism Day](https://www.flgov.com/2022/05/09/governor-ron-desantis-signs-legislation-to-honor-victims-of-communism-and-preserve-history-of-the-freedom-tower/)! Ok, it’s not really a holiday, but it’s clearly important! "While it’s fashionable in some circles to whitewash the history of communism, Florida will stand for truth and remain as a beachhead for freedom.” Or have I just reflexively assumed it’s another idiotic idea and there is actually some value here? ---

Observed in tandem with something like “Victims of Fascism Day” and “Victims of Capitalism Day”, I think it could be a very useful and thought-provoking reminder of how theoretically noble-sounding ideologies are often implemented at a high cost in human suffering. The way it’s going to be observed, though, will just be standard right-wing anti-socialism and anti-democracy propaganda. ---

Perhaps they could mend bridges with Disney and refit/rework the “It’s A Small World” ride to include the changes. ---
