On the shuttlebus commute ride home last night, a friend mentioned to me that Tan the Conman said that Putin wouldn’t have attacked Ukraine if he (TtC) were still president. My response: “Well, of course. While Trump was president, Putin was busy running two countries. Now that Trump’s no longer president, Putin had to fill in that gap in his résumé.” ---

I can’t find a cite – it was almost 20 years ago, after all – but ISTR Dem critics of Bush’s plans occasionally crossing a line into almost sounding like they were rooting for those plans to fail. IMO Republicans were right to call those critics out (although I completely opposed the war itself). ---

What you are recalling is Republicans _accusing fictional Democrats_ of doing this. The reason you can’t find a cite is because it didn’t happen. Today though, there is plenty of evidence for Fox News “personalities” and Republican politicians OPENLY cheering for a Russian invasion of a European country, the worst we have seen since World War II. ---
