One wonders if the people on Martha’s Vineyard did something similar when the Texans pulled the same stunt a few months ago. I’m sure the Texans were completely flummoxed and disgusted by the MV residents’ reaction, greeting them, feeding and clothing them, allowing some of them to even stay in their homes, etc. I suppose they thought the plane would land, and the migrants would be, oh, pelted with spitballs or something.

BTW, I started a Pit thread about this, if anyone’s interested. I first learned of this around 2am Central time, when I was still awake.

As for Kari Lake, she’s from my fair multi-city and briefly worked here as a TV reporter (and the local media has been mute about all this, for which I don’t blame them) and the latest report on the freak show also known as Marjorie Taylor Greene is that hang onto your seat: she is a swinger; don’t know if her (ex?) husband is or was too, but he isn’t an elected official, so in that case it’s a private matter. Her yoga instructor, who has allegedly been one of her, ahem, partners, has basically disowned “that awful woman.”

The article itself says 14,000 people in the first sentence, so I don’t know why the blurb says 7,000.

Considering that the Pierce County sheriff just got found not guilty after [stalking a black newspaper delivery man late at night in an unmarked vehicle and calling in a false report that the man had threatened to kill him](https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/law-justice/pierce-county-sheriff-ed-troyer-found-not-guilty-of-false-reporting/), I’m not optimistic.

A pretty well-known idea within computer science. Essentially, could a computer carry on a conversation over a text medium and fool someone into thinking they were chatting with a real person.

> **[Turing test](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turing_test)**
>
> The Turing test, originally called the imitation game by Alan Turing in 1950, is a test of a machine's ability to exhibit intelligent behaviour equivalent to, or indistinguishable from, that of a human. Turing proposed that a human evaluator would judge natural language conversations between a human and a machine designed to generate human-like responses. The evaluator would be aware that one of the two partners in conversation was a machine, and all participants would be separated from one an...

Two Tacoma Public Utilities substations were attacked, affecting 7,300 customers. The others were most likely the result of an attack on another substation run by Puget Sound Energy.

…and to get them _off_ the bus. I’m wondering what they were told was going on. If I were in that group and we weren’t told anything, I’d be wondering why we were being dropped in the middle of a fancy suburb in the middle of the night, and if they didn’t have a damn good answer, I’d probably end up trying to hijack the bus or something.

After traveling from their home, through the desert, across the border and then taking a 30 hour bus ride, I wouldn’t be surprised if you were far too exhausted to try and argue with a bus driver that you may or may not even speak the same language as. I think it’s more likely you’ll just go where the people that appear to be in charge tell you to go.
Remember, they almost certainly don’t know that they’re being shuttled around the country as a political stunt. They likely don’t even know that’s happened in the past. Or maybe we should refer to these incidents as “our past” or “our nation’s history”. Make sure people like Abbott know that years/decades/centuries from now, when all the context is stripped away, this is one of those issues that people will look back at to show how we, as a nation, treated other people.
Think about US History classes in the future. Tests with questions like “In what year did Greg Abbott parade buses full of migrants around the country?” or homework assignments like “Write an essay entitled ‘Ted Cruz: What was he thinking?’” or “Lindsay Graham: Was he for or against Donald Trump? Choose a side and defend your answer.”

But I also wondered how they got them off the bus.

The Vice Presidential residence is on the grounds of the US Naval Observatory. I would be interested in knowing just how close to the residence they dropped them off; I think the Secret Service would take a dim view of a busload of people parking right in front of the house, not to mention what perimeter security the USNO has.

The residence at One Observatory Circle itself is about 150 feet at nearest point to the outside fence, from the aerial view. What’s across that street on that side are a number of embassies and a park and the house (the former commander’s residence from the 1890s, extensively improved) does _not_ have a direct driveway to the street but instead you go in through one of the station’s gated entries and then use internal streets. If they wanted to get closest to the residence they probably stopped at the gate on Observatory and 3200 Mass. Av. NW or cattycorner to it in front of the park.

Interestingly, the word “CAPTCHA” (those online tests to prove you’re not a bot where you have to click on the correct image or enter the correct word from a skewed image of it) stands for “Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart”.

I’m hoping they’ll be remembered in the same way as Benedict Arnold, or Quisling or Petain. As complete shitstains and traitors.

In fact, decades from now I hope the word “Trump” is a commonly used phrase to describe a shallow, stupid con artist. “Don’t listen to him; he’s a complete Trump”

ISTR that after the stunt with Martha’s Vineyard, there was speculation that the authorities involved could (and should) be charged with human trafficking. And that the fact that the migrants had been entered into the system for being processed as refugees somehow shielded DeSantis and his goons from that. It makes me wonder if Abbott and _his_ goons similarly selected people for whom a human trafficking offense would not apply.

Has more information emerged on the story of these people and their journey?

The fact that entrance isn’t used or they’d be blocking the street during the unloading process is of no concern to them. It’s all abut pwning the libs.
