Making people pass a civics test before voting isn’t the worst idea I’ve ever heard, but I don’t think it’s likely to weed out the kind of voters that Vivek thinks it will. ---

We more or less tried ‘testing’ voters back in the Jim Crow days. It was a deliberate and effective attempt at disenfranchisement. It’s hardly surprising that somebody who wants to deliberately disenfranchise the ‘wrong’ sort would call for a return to those days. Ditto the suggestion to raise the voting age to 25. I bet he’d love to say “nobody under the age of 50” but couldn’t figure out a way to spin that. If you’re old enough to be tried in court as an adult, you are old enough to vote ---
