OK, I can understand how someone can misunderstand, say, “Born in the USA”. All one has to do to miss the point there is to not listen any further than the titular lyrics (which, to be honest, are the only part of the song most of us remember). But how can anyone have any familiarity at all with “We’re Not Gonna Take It”, without knowing that the song’s fundamental message is “Fuck the establishment”? I mean, even if you only ever heard the tune, you’d get it. ---

With their black-and-white thinking it makes some stupid sense to assume he was on their side in general since he testified against the crackdown on musical lyrics which was championed by Tipper Gore. But a lot has changed in the last 40 years. In addition to the, you know, actually listening to the lyrics thing already mentioned. ---
