And then of course, to spell out the quiet part: “And since a nine-year-old girl can safely give birth, we certainly don’t need to preapprove any kind of abortion for this girl. I mean, if she dies, she dies, but at least we’re not committing murder by aborting her baby to save her life, right?” Dr. Skop is well placed and knows her role well. She is on the maternal death committee in order to analyze and weigh all of the evidence on maternal deaths of women who wanted but couldn’t get an abortion, and then apply all of her medical training to find a reason why an abortion wouldn’t have saved those mothers’ lives. I’m sure she’s very good at her job. ---
