I doubt there was any expectation that they’d affect the actual nomination (though the head shill might have dreamed of that). I think it was just an attempt by Trump to create a photo op of himself being cheered by “Libertarians” at their own convention, something he could use to try to grab some Libertarian voters in the general. The job of the shills was just to get into the front row, look adoring, and cheer for his odious arglebargle. ---

[John Hospers](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Hospers#1972_presidential_candidacy) (L) won an electoral vote in 1972 but it was due to faithless EC voter [Roger MacBride](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roger_MacBride), angry that Nixon had implemented wage and price controls shortly before the general election. Tonie Nathan, Hospers’ running make, thus became the first woman to receive an Electoral College vote, a fact we had to keep reminding the media about when Geraldine Ferraro ran for VP with Mondale. ---

Incredibly, I managed to overestimate MAGA… Have I learned nothing?! The correct option was option D: _just lie about it_, and claim that the audience was cheering for trump and it was a sea of red hats. Particularly dystopian for me is at the point 8:47 in the below video, where rightside broadcasting is trying to claim there was “a lot of applause” while in the background he’s still being mercilessly jeered and heckled. Personally, I assumed a Semi Bird is what you do when someone mildly annoys you in traffic but not enough to fully deserve getting flipped off. 🙂 Readers will note the link is to a conservative talk radio station, and I normally wouldn’t use such a source, but it does warm my heart a little to know that the “sensible” Republicans in WA are coming out swinging against the MAGAnuts who have dominated the state party. ---
