Here’s the thing about Trump’s comments. What I think was going through his head was the following: The Presidential medal of Freedom is at more or less equal rank to the Congressional gold medal. He bumped this up to the ~~Congressional~~ Medal of honor, either because he confused the two or because he always exagerates, not sure which but OK this par for the course for Trump and if that was all he did he probably would have gotten off lightly. Then he had following fairly reasonable thought. All else being equal its probably better to get awarded the presidential medal of freedom than the medal of honor because you don’t have to get shot first. In the same way that its better to get your face on a baseball card than on a US postage stamp because you don’t have to be dead. As I said nothing particularly wrong with this thought. But there are two problems 1. He garbled his statement from its “better to get the presidential medal because”, to “the presidential medal is better because”. 2. This whole line of thinking while possibly appropriate to say informally as a gallows humor sort of joke around a bunch of friends. Is a totally inappropriate digression when you are in the middle of a what is just supposed to be a quick introduction of the wife of some guy who gave you a bunch of money. But this is the way Trump gives all of his speeches he starts off talking on topic and then just rambles on with whatever random thought enters his head (possibly an [indication](https://www.theguardian.com/society/2017/feb/21/long-winded-speech-could-be-early-sign-of-alzheimers-says-study) of early Alzheimer’s). ---
