Really what I think he means is that people knew their place. The aristocratic types were apparently really good at keeping the tradesmen and blackguard types under control, nothing keeps a slave in check like a good beating, and the NAs, well, they were good for being killed. The overt discord between the castes did not start to boil up until the early to mid 19th century, when those slaves and abolitionists started getting feisty (probably because England had outlawed slavery) and some assholes started giving the NAs guns to fight back with. ---

Sure, but is that less or more dumb than holding a press conference to announce that someone you’ve paid will suggest SA charges against a famous politician with no proof while you have your fly down? I would have categorized the A.I. boss stuff as sleazy rather than dumb, but I get that it’s a fine line. ---

Yes, it is actually the exact opposite of what he said. The reason the US revolution was more “successful” than most others is precisely because we were still divided by class. Unlike other revolutions, (e.g. the French and Russian revolutions) we didn’t overthrow the entire power structure, we just kicked out the people at the very very top, but kept the majority of the structure more or less intact. ---

After all, God commands and we obey… I think this explains very accurately a lot of what we’re seeing these days. Deference to authority, and belief in stories that are basically fairy tales. Pounded into them from the age of 2. Combine that with the sports metaphor of always cheering for your “Team”, and the fear of breaking away from the comfort of the crowd. Given this, you could get these folks to commit all manners of atrocities. ---
