Any idea what the amendment actually was? One assumes that had something to do with whether black people could serve. ---

Evidently it was an amendment to the NDAA to prevent the DoD from promoting diversity initiatives. It barely passed and is DOA in the Senate along with the rest of the usual culture war crap. ---

I think the striking the words, as opposed to amending them as he would have preferred, carries some sense of censure. The “striking” is a matter of record. There’s no unringing the bell in any event, I don’t think. ---

Yes, striking the words if I recall my procedure lessons is based on that the intemperate words are an offense against _the House_ itself so we-the-collective rather not be seen as abiding them. But yeah, it was a matter of time before someone let his ass hang out like that “in all the excitement”. Also, part of the matter apparently is that the McCarthy self-hostaging deal in the Rules Committee has led to the FreeDumb caucus becoming empowered to demand to bring to the floor such RightWing-virtue-messaging shit whenever they see fit so they can have footage of it being debated and force people to vote for it on record so they can use that in the next fundraisers. ---

I have heard more than one recent veteran bitch loud and long about the new requirements of the kinder, gentler, less personally aggressive US military. No more abusing your underlings, no more shouting, no cursing, and no threatening to beat them to a pulp for minor infractions. No more bad names or belittling terminolgy. No aggressive hand gestures. Something is definitely lost with the change, but I’m not sure that something is actual combat capability. ---
