That’s why I was suggesting France should start making their own if the US is going to thumb their nose at what can be called champagne. Back before I had to stop drinking, bonded whiskey was one of my favorite rare treats. ---

Yeah, but the “champagne” versus Champagne thing is pretty much a dead issue these days. Except for idjits like Orange Foolius. I would be curious to see what the French would do with a corn (maize) based distillate. ---

The alcohol bourbon is named after Bourbon County Kentucky and/or Bourbon Street New Orleans, both of which are named for the Bourbon royal family originally of the Bourbonnais region of France. ---

The [cookies/biscuits](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bourbon_biscuit), although British, appear to be named after either the French royals or the New Orleans connection (given they were originally named “Creola”) or possibly both. Sadly, they are not alcoholic. ---

Because with Champagne vs sparkling wine there is a difference based on terroir. Not so much with distilled spirits. And yeah, this IS the Pit _but_ this is really not on topic so I’m dropping it. ---
