As well as those who aren’t yet retired or disabled who can see what will become of them when they reach retirement age. The white-hot anger from those of us who have paid into Social Security our whole lives, are counting on it in our old age and then being told" too bad, so sad, sucker". Just MHO, but that’s what I think the flashpoint will be. Because then for a large portion of society it goes from being mostly about _those_ people to being about _us_. ---

As a former Social Security employee I can remember two times when there were government shutdowns due to Congress fucking around with approving the budget. Both times the only government offices which were not shut down were the DoD and Social Security. We used to joke that if they tried to shut us down Congress would be flooded with enraged seniors. ---
