Actually better put the beam generator in the gun, not the projectile. So the gun launches the fissionable BB, tracks its flight with e.g. LiDAR, also tracks the target and when the BB & target get in close proximity, fires the particle accelerator at the BB to trigger the fission. As you say, the rest is just engineering \. ---

God no, that sounds like one of those sucky video game guns where you have to hold the trigger down while it finally decides to shoot or something. Plus, hitting the exact same target twice seems difficult, even with LIDAR. Plus, a self-contained nuclear accelerator bomb bullet could also double as a nuclear hand grenade, if we included a manual way to trigger the accelerator. ---
