I grew up in extreme northern Maine, and while ice hockey was the thing to do across the border in Canada, it wasn’t all that popular in my town. No high school team. I think there was an adult league that they let kids play in if they wanted, but no one ever did. I digress … Up there, in gym class, we had two alternatives, already mentioned but not what we called them. Indoor hockey with sneakers and an orange plastic ball was, “Floor Hockey”. Hockey played on ice, but with sneakers, and brooms and basketball instead of sticks and puck, was called, “Broom Ball.” ---
