I hope it doesn’t sound like I was defending him in any way. I was pointing out how stupid his back-pedaling was, given that Smith explicitly went to a women’s game. ---

What was really disgusting was Schmitt insisting (after the incident, talking to reporters) that Smith was being “weaponized to go after Biden’s #1 enemy”, thereby declaring falsely **yet again** that Trump should be immune to all prosecution. Fucking dirtbag indeed. ---

I was wondering if the kid who held up the poster was the one who did the “research.” He might be looking for a new position soon. Also, what was the deal with holding up the sign for such a short time and not wanting Smith to get a good look at it? I mean I know why but it was so lame. ---

It was a performance by Eric Schmitt. He saw Jack Smith, the hearing, and the poster as just props centered around his performance. So he didn’t need to hold the poster up long enough for Smith to read it; this wasn’t about introducing a key piece of evidence at a hearing. He just held it up long enough for the cameras to take a picture of him holding it up; that’s all that was needed for the performance. He then launched into his pre-written speech: > In closing, I just want to say in the famous words of the chief of the secret police under Stalin, show me the man, I’ll show you the crime. You may think you’re a hero in this story, but let me tell you something. You’re the villain. You’ve done so much damage - as a former prosecutor, I can say this, so much damage - to the trust and faith people have in our system. You have weaponized the Department of Justice against political enemies to an extent that has never happened in the history of this country. You will go down as a total dirtbag. I yield my time. You can see Schmitt thinking how good all this was going to look on the news that evening. And then it all collapsed on him. If you watch the video, watch Jack Smith during all of this. When Schmitt first begins this act, you can that Smith is confused and a little worried. But eventually he’s able to read the poster and he figures out what’s going on. At this point, you see Smith sit back and relax; he knows Schmitt has stepped into a pile of shit but just doesn’t know it yet. ---

At least until next week when they’ll top this. And top that yet again the next week. And the next. Sigh. And another thing … Fucking stupid Schmitt did not understand what this meant: “the chief of the secret police under Stalin, show me the man, I’ll show you the crime.” It meant that that corrupt evil policeman can be shown any man, however honest and honorable, and he and his corrupt organization can invent a crime that’ll stick to him. Sure sounds like Schmitt was right: the current corrupt processes can stick a fake crime on Smith and might even make it stick. That’s certainly transparently obviously their intent. ---
