Sounds like they’re allowing you to stay mounted on flyers when you zone through, but throttling them down to ground mounts in terms of function.

This is the best thing I’ve read all morning. I would not be surprised if it remains so all day.

> [@](#):

> You can’t fly in PvP zones and TB counts as a PvP zone.

It has nothing to do with PvP zones. There are just certain areas, especially high-level daily quest hubs, where you are not allowed to fly. Some of them involve PvP; some of them don’t.

> [@Headrush042](#):
>
> I’m annoyed that Firelands is a no-fly zone. It’s not very large, but it seems pretty creature-dense.

Welcome to max-level daily hubs. This was introduced with the Isle of Quel’Danas back in TBC, where you weren’t allowed to fly even though you could in Outland. I literally couldn’t survive on my own when I first dinged 70; I actually first got together with the guy who became one of my best friends and pocket healer because I’d tag along with him, since he was in T5/T6 gear and could keep me alive.

> [@mchapman](#):
>

Cairne is probably your best bet, since that’s the highest concentration. My main is currently on Stormscale, but there’s a good chance I’ll be moving again soon, probably to Mal’ganis.

> [@gnoitall](#):

> Azgalor embodies the worst in PvP servers: punks on both sides with no social development, complete immaturity, and extremely fast twitch reflexes. Ganking is a way of life, and for a non douchebag world PvP is just something that happens to you while you’re trying to get something else done.

IME that’s \*all \*PvP servers. There was a time when they served a purpose, but now all they are is a haven for people who are so bad at PvP that the only way they can get an HK is to gank.

If you’re having phasing problems, open an in-game ticket. Be sure to sprinkle it with attention-grabbing keywords like “unplayable.”

Seeing as that’s the entire point of phasing, and to do so would fuck over a huge percentage of their subscribers, I see no reason why they’d even consider this.

Yeah, that would be shortsighted. Good thing Blizz is never ever shortsighted.

I swear, their product development management seems to live by the motto “[Close Enough](http://s3.amazonaws.com/kym-assets/entries/icons/original/000/002/611/close_enough.png?1273013490)”. So, I really hope you’re right, but that’s as far as I’ll go.

Anyway, if Oak isn’t completely screwed, and willing to swallow his pride and annoyance at having to do quests he doesn’t like, I did see a comment on Wowhead that indicated a minimum-effort path the unlock the Regrowth in the correct phase:

I have a ticket pending. Last I checked it said I could expect a response in 2.5 days or something. Sigh.

For **Gnoitall,** the problem is I can’t get the Lycanthoth quest. Those NPCs are in their cages, but they won’t talk to me. I’m pretty sure I did the Protect the World Tree quest, but I will double check tonight. Or maybe tomorrow. Fiance has been out of town for a couple of days, coming back tonight. We’re gonna fire up the grill and…😉

I did get the first two dailies unlocked on my druid. I’ve got 12 Marks, so I can probably get to the next stage pretty soon. I guess the druid should be all over this stuff for RP reasons, but I’m missing my mage. Been leveling a tankadin for the last few weeks, and miss dropping those big sexy crits with Arcane Blast…

Yeah, the firelands raid is directly accesible through Sulfuron Spire in Hyjal. No questing needed.

As for the prelim quests, I just did the Goldrinn chain on a character I hadn’t completed _anything_ in Hyjal on and had no problems with the questline. Granted, I’ve done it 4 times before on other characters so I knew where to start, but starting from the Green dragon flying you to Hyjal through Goldrinn seems to work just fine.

Did you do the quest(s) for Alysra involving Fandral? He/She’ll then send you to Ysera, who sends you to some hunters overlooking a continuous chain of twilight caravans who then sends you to speak to one of the NPCs in the cages. They won’t talk to you until you’ve completed at least one of the quests overlooking that supply caravan.

The problem appears to be more for those of us, like my mage, who had done part of the Hyal quests soon after Cata launched. Really not sure how I got out of phase…but somehow I was able to do Tortolla, and sorta skipped Goldrinn. Don’t think that is supposed to be possible, but lucky me…

I am frankly disappointed Blizz has implemented Hyjal to be phased so complex and fragile that unless you followed the questlines early and slavishly, you’re in trouble. This was never a problem for me, since I’m one of those brain-damaged players who actually prefers questing, but I can see how it would be a problem for others with different priorities.

BTW, [Oakminster](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/member.php), I hope I don’t sound in other posts that I’m unsympathetic or that I think it’s your fault. Blizz fell in love with phasing and it made their questing environment occasionally brittle in WotLK. Now, Hyjal’s use of phasing can indeed render the zone unplayble without intervention. Anyone not inclined to obsessive-compulsive completionism is at risk of missing an important quest line and hosing up the 4.2 content. That’s not good game design. They really should have offered a one-shot catch up to phase the world correctly; maybe accepting the cookie crumb from the command board should (after suitable warning about losing out on the other quest lines) phase Hyjal, treating Aessina’s Miracle as a done deal.

I agree completely. Blizzard needs some sort of “fast forward” button to let people synch up with the zone and get to the new content. To a certain extent, they’re playing “gotcha” with us. At the Cata launch, we had the option to start in Hyjal, or in whatever that water zone is called–similar rewards, just an optional path to progression, except the water zone had a relatively easy to get mount. You could also level up by grinding dungeons or battlegrounds, and plenty of people did.

Now, months later, they’re all “Ha ha ha–you will go back and suffer through our tedious level 80 content that you skipped the first time, or no new shinies for you!”

There’s a difference between being shortsighted and maliciously and permanently removing the access of a huge percentage of your population to a significant portion of the game, especially when your current paradigm is to expand endgame access. It not only makes no sense, it makes anti sense. And while Blizzard occasionally does \*stupid \*things, especially the sort of shit that seems to be prompted by the Activision end, they don’t do \*malicious \*things, and they don’t do things that will absolutely piss off a huge majority of their playerbase.

If something like this \*were \*happening, we’d already be hearing a massive outcry about it, and they’d already be reversing it.

> [@Oakminster](#):
>
> I have a ticket pending. Last I checked it said I could expect a response in 2.5 days or something.

Does it have keywords like “unplayable,” “can’t play,” “stuck,” “broken,” etc.? I’m not kidding about those getting you attention faster. If you don’t, it’s 100% worth it to edit your ticket to include them.

> [@gnoitall](#):
>
> I am frankly disappointed Blizz has implemented Hyjal to be phased so complex and fragile that unless you followed the questlines early and slavishly, you’re in trouble.

They’re still working out the kinks with phasing. By and large, though, it works pretty well, assuming you’re okay with a very on-the-rails experience. But it should have been clear to everybody, IMO anyway, that this is how it works now, and you need to pay attention to picking up quests when they’re available, etc.

Oh no, \*the game \*is forcing you to _play the game_. Maybe this is just because I started playing during an era of attunement for everything, but I don’t see the problem. All of the new zones involve phasing; that means that any \*new \*content added to those zones must be placed \*at or beyond \*the last level of phasing from the original quests. Otherwise, the people who’ve done the quests in those zones wouldn’t be able to access them.

The Hyjal quests are interesting. At 85, they’ll be an especial cakewalk. Sometimes you have to do some work for your goodies; at the risk of sounding overly harsh, I’ll borrow the words of my esteemed grandmother and say, “Tough shit.” Maybe instead of having to do dailies there, Blizzard could just have an NPC you talked to and asked for the gear! Or, you know what, that’s too much work. Every 85 should just have a full set mailed to them.

You mean I gotta walk to the mailbox to get them? No thanks. Just drop em in my bags.

In all seriousness though, while there may very well have been a problem with phasing, far more likely you just missed one of the cookie crumb quests. The problem with the Cata zones is that it has a fairly linear progression with only a few quests available at a time, and that the quest givers are spread out often in non-obvious places. If you have some time I would just fly around just to make sure you don’t have any quests in the previous areas.

Better yet, find an addon that tells you what quests in a zone you have or haven’t done. I don’t know what has that functionality currently, but I bet someone here could tell you, or you could just browse Curse for quest addons.

WTF, I have to actually rummage around in my bags and equip the gear? Screw that. I want it all, ilvl 372+, spec-optimized (MM hunter, thank you), fully pre-equipped, epic-gemmed, maximally-enchanted, and reforged to min-max my epeen ^w DPS output.

I hope it’s that simple. But if Oak says he did some fragmentary quest chains “in violation” of the normal prerequisites, his quest line status may be hosed and require intervention.

I have used Wowhead’s addon to collect and upload stuff like quest and crafting progression. The website view of the character makes the Armory look weak and silly. But you have to be willing to trust Wowhead with access to your play time (their addon records kills, loots, crafting action, quest completion, etc.).

That’s not for everybody. It wasn’t really for me for a long time, paranoid as I am, but quest completion status at a glance was compelling. (Now, if only they’d update their archaeology progression pages to incorporate the projects added in the patch just before 4.2.)

This is just my WAG, but if it allowed him to complete the new Thrall chain up to and including killing the green dragon, and he hasn’t done the escort Fandral quest given by that same dragon, that may very well be where he’s getting screwed.

The mage is good to go now. It took GM intervention. He had me log to an alt, and then he logged in to my toon, and did…something. When he told me to go back to the mage, the questgivers were there, and I was able to move forward.

Still not happy about having to slog through umpteen quests I outleveled months ago. I really don’t care about the storyline, especially not on the mage. I care even less about Thrall’s love life, which seems to be the point of that tedious bouncing around the elemental planes questline. One shotting level 80 mobs that don’t drop anything useful gets old fast.

I had a GM intervention once. It had to do with **Clawdie** being left alone in Gilneas City with no quests and no way to get out. (Her hearth was there, too).

So he asked me if I’d sign on to different toon and then asked if he could move me?

I wrote back, “GM… I think you… _move_ me.”

The GM did his thing and then moved himself. Quickly. 😉

Glad you got your problem solved, **Oak**!
