Is Farmville REALLY taking up that much of the Internet??? That may be the saddest thing about the state of the world today. I still find it inconceivable that Facebook is using more bandwidth than youtube. I mean…youtube is all high-file-sized video, while FB is all images and text. Remember 5 years ago when myspace was the #4 highest bandwidth site, behind google, yahoo and MSN (which I’m betting gets most of its bandwidth from people who don’t know how to change IE’s start page)? Now…it’s like the abandoned amusement park of the internet. ---

The thread title is in error; this is not a “map of the Internet”, or even a “map of the World Wide Web” (which while it’s arguably become the most important element of the Internet, isn’t the whole thing). It’s as it is labeled: A “map of online communities”. ---

A small part of that map would be much larger, if a certain group of people weren’t so beholden to their own first couple of rules. ---

There were a few things on the map new to me; I wondered how QQ could be so big and yet I’ve never heard of it. But I see that’s because it’s exclusively Chinese. ---

A middle-aged woman who sits near me at work is obsessed with Farmville. I suffered hundreds of hours listening to her phone people to get them to do Farmville stuff for her during the day. Thank God she bought herself an iPhone so she could look after her “farm” while at work. From what I overheard it sounds very, very silly.
