Not necessarily. They could always calculate what the retail price _would_ be without tariffs, then add a “tariff”-sized surcharge to that and _call_ it due to the tariffs. No rule that says they _have_ to tell the truth.

It’s basically this, yeah.

Trump hires bootlickers and cowards. He definitely has a sense of that sort of thing.
