I really enjoy the Chelsea Market and the nearby High Line Walkway. They are near enough to each other to do together. On a beautiful October day the High Line would be a gorgeous walk.
The Rose Space Center and Hayden Planetarium are technically adjacent to the AMNH. The Space Center admission is included in admission to AMNH, but the sky show in the domed planatrium is an additional fee, I believe.
Their permanent exhibit “Scales of the Universe” is an attempt to help you conceptualize how big (and how small) things in the universe can be - very cool.
You can spend all day inside inside the AMNH, and not see it all. You might want to consult the map and select a few exhibits you are very interested in and target those. If you just wander around or try to see it room-by-room you’ll give up from exhaustion before seeing your favorite stuff.
Thanks scribble, I like the sound of all of them and will try to get to at least one of them. Thanks also for the tip on Hopstop, a great little app that I’ve been playing with since I downloaded it.
Thanks ITD the girlfriend has already pencilled in a shopping trip to Chelsea and the High Line looks fabulous, such a cool idea.
The info about the ANHM is much appreciated, I like the sound of the "Scales of the Universe’ I’ll definitely be checking that out, maybe a trip to the planetarium too.
I’m also keen to see some live music when I’m there any recommendations for good venues?
Thanks again for everyone’s help, I know there’s google and so many other resources but there so much cool stuff to do in NY that it’s invaluable to get some insider tips.
