Outside of beefs with organized crime show me where this happens and is sponsored by the state.

Or are you parroting the BS no-go lies.

Because this is a reality instead of a story shared among white nationalist cowards for POC in many areas.

In other words…a level playground? Or are you trying to say only white dudes have that happen to them?

Has someone called Jeong “childish”? Certainly not me. Your own approach seems more akin to treating her as a child.

It seems incredibly ironic that you’re criticizing others for being condescending, when you won’t accept Jeong’s own account, and her own opinion about her past rhetoric. Your are blind to your own condescension in suggesting, in effect, that if someone’s in a marginalized group, we cannot take their ideas at face value and discuss them on their merits, because perhaps their anger and frustration leads them to say things they don’t really mean.

On the one hand, I can seek to listen and try to learn about the fact that Jeong’s lived experience as a young Korean woman is vastly different from my own. On the other hand, I can treat her as an intellectual peer and debate her ideas on their merits. There is no contradiction in that. I very much doubt that Jeong feels that she wants to be treated delicately as an intellectual, or that in debate she needs you or anyone else to reinterpret her ideas for our benefit.

Sarah Jeong isn’t the issue per se, but she is the poster child of what type of approach the NYT has, they have fostered a perception that because Sarah is a POC, she gets a pass as long as she doesn’t do it again, where as someone like Quinn Norton, who had a similar experience, gets fired within hours of taking the post, and she is white.

Aren’t you supposed to be better than the people discriminating against you? But again, as I’ve stated previously in this thread, I don’t consider Sarah Jeong to be a racist, she just told some stupid racist jokes and NYT established a precedent which by flushing their moral highground down the toilet.

So the logic is to allow POC to use racial slurs against the majority because somehow that levels the playing field, how about all people getting away from using racial slurs and respecting each other on an equal playing field? No, I’m not massively familiar with him but what I have heard has led me to agree with some things he says, just as I’m sure you do, and I disagree with a lot that he says. I’m not a fanboy though, I’m not 14. I \*am \*a huge fan of the late Christopher Hitchens and still manage to disagree with him on various subjects. He is bang-on regarding the utility of the dialectical method though, not that it seems to interest you much.

You seem to dismiss everything Peterson has written (or, by implication, will write) without a second thought. What a close-minded knee-jerk reaction. What has he specifically done that has made you dismiss \*everything \*he has or will ever write or say?

Direct quotes please, not your interpretation. (One thing I did see was the Cathy Newman interview. Just see how interpretation worked out for her)

> No they weren’t equated. Unless you think I was equating gamegoobers and incels with Hitler as well? Why’d you snip them from your quote?

I have no knowledge about them and I don’t pronounce on subjects that I don’t know enough about.

So who are they? and in what way are they in the same bracket as Hitler and Peterson? It is entirely possible that, through my ignorance, I have misunderstood your paragraph completely and if so I will apologise for my flippant response.

Of course you very much \*did \*put the value of all their pronouncements on an equal footing though didn’t you?. I might ask you why you put Hitler in there. You made that conscious decision. I’m assuming those other two people/groups/things are not genocidal racist maniacs hell bent on world domination are they? Or am I wrong and was Peterson actually the odd one out?

You chose to include Hitler for your own rhetorical purposes (something of a “scorched-earth” approach but hey-ho). Don’t get snippy when it makes your points look ridiculous.

>
> The dominant narrative on the Left comes perilously close to sounding like we should be treating marginalized groups with _intellectual_ kid gloves, that POC of color have been so damaged by historical prejudice that the poor delicate things can’t think clearly, so of course we can’t hold POC to the same standards of discourse as privileged white people. That we just want them to hear their _anger_ and _frustration_, not debate ideas.

Again…you are dictating what their response to subjugation should be, and holding her up as some model example that is acceptable for you to “mend” some breach of decorum that is supposedly committed by POC if they are angry for being screwed over.

If you were out with your friends, and one of them walked over and hit a random stranger in the face, and then came back to your table and continued to drink coffee would they be wrong in coming over and cussing out not only the person who assaulted them but the rest of the table?

I know it’s not your fault, but you are a white man, and you don’t get to dictate what appropriate behavior is for some group that has been attacked and marginalized because they are not white.

We should appreciate and respect people who do so, but to expect it is no different than complaining about ‘_uppity negros_’ because you want them to ‘_be in their place_’.

Hopefully there will be a time when this is not the case, but right now we have a POTUS that calls actual Neo-Nazi’s 'Some Very Fine People" while debasing anyone who isn’t white.

To be clear Trump just make this more visible and it is ignorant and condescending to say that Joey Gibson and POC who are angry are the same. One is fighting to stay an oppressor and the other party is pissed off for being oppressed.

So you deny those direct quotes I provided? Or do you no longer expect minorities to _‘be in their place’_.

Let me cut down that quote a bit more.

Why is it _‘hypocritical and counterproductive’_ to expect oppressors to not be pissed off when people want to grant equal rights? Why is it _‘hypocritical and counterproductive’_ to realize that people who have been oppressed and wronged may be angry?

Is there a thread already about Jordan Peterson? I can’t figure out why this dude has become famous all of a sudden. I’ve listened to a couple of discussions where he was a participant, and the things he said about atheists was just monumentally stupid, and I do mean monumentally. But most of the time, he sounded like Chauncey Gardiner. Has he said stuff worthwhile ever?

This may help, but basically he doesn’t git that \*‘toxic masculinity’ \* relates to current social norms where men need to feel like they are better than someone else (minorities, women etc) to have value.

Basically he can’t figure out that “toxic masculinity” does note equal “masculinity is toxic”

It is related to some of the alt-right rallies being organized by Trump supporters who pledge themselves as “western chauvinists”

> **[Who are the Proud Boys, 'western chauvinists' involved in political violence?](https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/jul/14/proud-boys-far-right-portland-oregon)**

“toxic masculinity” is what produces these fragile men.

Well, it’s happened every single time I’ve walked through a black neighborhood. I guess I’m a liar, though. Now only 1/4 of the four times was it an actual attack, the other times it was merely catcalls telling me to get out of the neighborhood, which totally aren’t racist because I’m an evil white man right? I’ve probably attacked dozens of black people for being in my neighborhood by your reckoning. Do you have an estimation of how many? Or if you think I am too timid for that, can you tell me how many times you think I’ve catcalled black people from a car telling them they should leave the neighborhood? Probably a whole fucking bunch right?

Not all people who have punched someone do so habitually and without apology.

Normal person: “Woah! I just bumped into you! _Sorry about that_.”

Others: “I don’t bump into people: in fact I’m the least bumpable person I know.”

I highly suspect that you are looking at people like they are sub-human or that they are going to rob you if this happens every time, even if that isn’t intentional.

Street criminals and bullies are selective about their victims. Realize this is not an attack against you, and I am not blaming you but you may want to look into why they single you out. Some simple changes may make you feel more comfortable in lots of situations.

I tend to look everyone I pass in the eye and say a friendly ‘hey’ and have had zero problem even in neighborhoods that the national press likes to label as cesspits like Oakland, Hunters point and Compton.

Of course this is not an option if you are female, but us males do have this privilege.

Now only 1/4 of the four times was it an actual attack, the other times it was merely catcalls telling me to get out of the neighborhood, which totally aren’t racist because I’m an evil white man right?

So… you’ve been in a black neighborhood a total of four times in your life?

I bow to your extensive expertise on this subject.
