> Not unreasonable? After naming the artist, including a direct quotation from the song, and referencing the Vietnam War?

By the time I met her, my wife had graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa and was in graduate school working on the first of two masters degrees. She had never heard that song, or even heard of it, until she came to my mom’s house for Thanksgiving. Far more people have seen the TV show. If someone doesn’t know the song, quoting the lyrics doesn’t matter.

Blalron’s not going to vote Republican, and neither am I. You are not paying attention.

How do you explain people who voted for Obama and then voted for Trump or stayed home?

> [@](#):

> Is this like the new SJW? Just a way to label progressive attitudes you want to dismiss? Do you really think institutional racism is bullshit? Is there no such thing as white privilege? If these concepts are legitimate topics to discuss, then it’s not reasonable to blame them for Trump’s success.

Did I say that institutional racism is bullshit?
Did I say any of that stuff isn’t real?

Of course white privilege is a real thing. The storytelling and narratives show that they exist but none of the anecdotal stuff proves that they are significant drivers of the disparities in society. I think opeople have used Crit race theory to attribute every goddam thing in the world to institutional racism, white privilege, microaggressions etc. It gets a lot of people rolling their eyes.

When we see cops shooting black people disproportionately to white people, we hear claims that cops are racist. We look into it and we discover that cops do not shoot black people disproportionately to white people after accounting for SES. We see studies that say that cops HARASS black people more frequently but do not shoot them more frequently. But nope, we still have people who put their anecdotal experience ahead of these studies.

One premise of crit race theory is that American society has been created by whites for whites. And that all the racial disparities are due to the lopsided power that whites wield in society. I think proves things through anecdote and narrative storytelling. This is fine in the legal theory setting in which it was first introduced. It showed that neutral laws could in fact still have profoundly racist effects (or at least perpetuate racist conditions). Then it was exported to other areas of social science and lost some of its analytical framework along the way. By the time it got to the SJWs, I think it had become a bunch of axiomatic statements about the role of race in society.

Whether you realize it or not, crit race theory is where a lot of the modern notions of race and society on the far left are coming from. Crit race theory specifically objects to liberalism’s attempts at fairness and objectivity. It takes a far more combative and aggressive stance.

I should have said they are rallying around this racist. They are not rallying around hen racism.

> [@](#):

> Trump is the logical result of decades of Hannity and Limbaugh’s style of bullshit propaganda. Not the left. But they successfully convinced tons of Americans that the left, and most of the media, was evil and out to get them. It was and still is entirely bullshit, apart from a teeny-tiny fringe (a fringe which will always exist, because there are always people who believe in anything, and now they’re easy to find on the internet). There’s no equivalent on the left that has anything near the influence that they have.

There is nothing new about Hannity and Limbaugh has been around since Reagan. Trump is not the natural result of anything. He won because he was saying things that no other politician was saying because saying these things had become politically toxic. Or so we thought.

This was the danger of using accusations of racism to shut white people up. They shut up alright, but then expressed themselves in the voting booths. We never engaged them, we never tried to convince them. We just vilified them. So they thought (and rightly so) that we were just shutting them down to avoid argument. And it was one thing when you were shutting down the David Dukes of the world, it was another thing when you were shutting down more moderate folks.

I strongly disagree with your understanding of police shooting data (which is both incredibly sparse and troubling as it exists), not to mention the many other pieces of data which result in very legitimate feelings of distrust of law enforcement in many communities.

And your SJW nonsense is just that and not worth discussing. It’s a load of crap that makes Hannity and Limbaugh happy. Most liberals have pretty mainstream beliefs, even about race.

Bullshit. Moderate white people are not being shut up in any way at all. Limbaugh and Hannity have said for years that accusations of racism are enough to shut someone down… and it’s complete bullshit. They’ve said many racist things and they’ve never been shut down. Trump, obviously, has not been shut down. Neither has Steve King or the many other Republicans in office who have said racist things. There are so many examples of prominent people who have said racist things and not been shut down at all that it’s ridiculous that those same people still spread this nonsense. And even more ridiculous that some folks like you believe it. It’s laughable bullshit.

We had a couple of alt-right provocateurs try to give a speech in this country a couple of months ago but they couldn’t: because no venue would allow them to speak there. We drove the fuckers off.
>
> So we won’t allow a fascist regime to blossom in our country.

Right before Trump we elected our first African American president, twice.

Then we had Trump.

Many of the folks that voted for Obama turned around and voted for Trump, in part because of people like you.

It sounds like you are from new Zealand. Are you of Maori or colonialist descent?

How many Maori Prime Ministers have you had in your colonial government? Is there much racism there? How are the Maori doing economically compared to the colonialists? You don’t really need white supremacists when the society is already white colonialist. Wait until your society has to deal with the dominant group losing power before you start extolling the moral superiority of your colonialist country.

Your country has a population somewhere between South Carolina and Alabama. Its hardly reasonable to compare New Zealand to the USA.

Like I said, its the liberals that are generally telling people to shut up by accusing people who are not racist of racism. They do this because they are trying to enforce ideological purity.

> [@](#):
>
> I’m doing fine thanks. Not going to hell, not dragging you to hell.

Wait. Wait until the white folks in New Zealand start to feel threatened. Then see how morally superior you are. Then see how much mileage you get from calling everyone a racist.

Yes, but they are not driving the conversations about race. The crit race theorists are.

Police shoot blacks at about 2.5 times the rate they shoot whites. Blacks have a poverty rate about 3 times as high as whites. There are population distribution issues and things like that but once you take SES into account the gross disparities get a lot harder to see.

That is very naïve. Accusations of racism, like accusations of rape and wife beating mar a person’s reputation. It is absolutely used to shut people up in debate. Are you kidding?

I’m talking about liberals being shut down by accusations of racism. The crit race theorists are hijacking the liberal movement by accusing liberals that don’t agree with them of being racist. People on this board frequently uses accusations of racism to shut people up, and this board is ANOYNYMOUS. Accusations of racism are never going to shut up actual racists.
