About the “terrorist fist jab” meme… Does anyone actually believe there is such a thing other than the right-wing nut case who first floated that idea? I don’t spend any time on the partisan blogs, so I have no idea whether that gets any traction on the right wing sites.
Some of the covers if you want to look em over. Some are as out there as this one…though IMHO, most are better drawn than this one was. Check out the later covers…the early one’s are pretty boring wrt political humor.

John, trust me on this, you don’t want to. When one’s faith in one’s fellow man is as fragile as yours and mine…
You know, I don’t think much of the FBI, but I don’t think he’s what they’re looking for.
The covers are often cultural and not political, and the subject matters varies widely. Often it’s just New York-related images. Normally, they feature two cultural elements combined in an unexpected way that parodies both. The funniest cover I can remember (by the same artist as this one, it turns out) featured Mahmoud Ahmadinejad sitting in a bathroom stall, with a stranger’s wingtipped foot tapping next to his leg. This was in the wake of the Larry Craig scandal, of course, along with Ahmadinejad’s comments that there were no gays in Iran.
If you want a controversial cover, the front of the magazine featured an Orthodox Jewish man and a black woman kissing - this about a year and a half after the Crown Heights riot. I only saw this in college and thought it was great, but apparently it got a tough reception.
And so soon after post #27, too.
The one with Chaney blowing the smoke out of his shotgun was pretty funny as well.

Nah - blaming what’s on the cover of the New Yorker on right-wingers isn’t all that funny.

Nah…the fist jab is common. If you watch sports you’ll see it all the time. If you have kids you’ll see them do it. Not even the most slavering fundie right-winger can spin that into anything.
Huh?
I missed the part where people are blaming right-wingers for the New Yorker cover.
I have no idea what you might possibly mean, and I’m not sure I care, but let’s not even pretend that you wouldn’t have made an equally “funny” jab if Obama hadn’t reacted.
Some people need reasons to attack-others just need excuses.
Satire doesn’t even work at all unless people are informed. The problem this election cycle — and the New Yorker knows this — is that there is a large base of low information voters. A substantial number of Americans believe the things in the cartoon to be actual truth.
Right, and you’re going to reflexively blame everything on right wingers. So?
But you’re right, I’m going to make jokes about Obama. You don’t like it? Boo funking hoo. Like I said, he better develop a thicker hide than he’s got now PDQ.
Or not - sometimes this “how DARE you” stuff every time someone mentions the Divine and Exalted One in tones other than those of hushed reverence is funnier than anything I can come up with.

Shodan
I thought the cover was hilarious.
And anybody who tries to take the OBVIOUS FUCKING JOKE image seriously, and spin political hay out of it, I’ll think they’re hilarious too.
Could someone please point out what posts he is referring to? It’s like he is posting in the wrong thread or something.
No, I’m not. Thoughtful right-wingers have condemned the ill-conceived piece. In fact, McCain’s campaign supported Obama’s campaign word for word in perfect solidarity. The people responsible for this are idiots, not idealogues.
I was talking to Czarcasm.

Shodan
I don’t get it. I did like the one comment from the guy who said Hillary picks up the phone and then turns to Barack and says: “It’s for you”. But I don’t get it.
Like I said, satire works only when you’re informed.
