4 posts and im running away with myself. Starting Threads!!! What impudence. I’m new. I have many opinons you will want to debunk and slander. I am filled to capacity with unPC ideas that will see the nations shake with the force of heads hitting keyboards repeatedly. I will wax lyrical on subjects that will see ER’s flooded with people whos eyes have actually rolled all the way back into their sockets. I popped my SD cherry over in Great Debates and while there happened upon a thread regarding the Dating game. Such serious people. I though about it but decided not to risk posting this there. I dont know if you have a show called Family Fortunes in the states but it is a show in which a group of family members score points for awnsering questions that have been asked of the public. A Vox Pop is carried out before the show and the contestants who correctly guess the awnser that most people gave will score highest marks The questions are usually along the lines of " Name a piece of shiboard equipment" Most of the public might have said “anchor” Second might be “sail” and so on. Contestants will score highly for awnsering “sail” but get top marks for awnsering “anchor”. You get the idea. The stress of this intellectual challenge gets to some people and below I present a list of the more comical awnser given on …“FAMILY FORTUNES” What were they thinking? Yes, it’s called Family Feud here in the US. The host is a pervert and tries to kiss and feel up all the female family members, even the grandmas. That show sucks. Oh yeah, welcome! ---

Oh the show sucks alright. Funny but the UK host is exactly the same and here in Finland we have anothe rpervert on “Kodin Kotana” They cannot and will not stay away from the females no matter how much they squirm. Is it a requirment? ## In many ways a brave man is required I guess as there’s usually a Father, Husband and two brothers close by. ## Zero response posts I can handle. You get used to talking to yourself in a country where you dont speak the language. And as for saving the best stuff…that my friends was simply testing the water. You will hear from me again. ---

No, no, Demo! You’re thinking of the OLD Family Feud, hosted by Richard Dawson. Richard was indeed a major perv who would grope someone’s female poodle if it were carried onto the set. (I have read a little about him and it appears that he is quite the pervert in real life, as well, plus a fairly mean-spirited person.) The current Feud is hosted by comedian Louie Anderson, who, instead of suction-cupping his lips on every female face, primarily makes somewhat cynical but generally funny remarks, as well as self-deprecating jokes and comments about his being fat. He never does anything more physical than shaking the contestants’ hands. The game is identical but the host is much different, and, though games shows and their hosts are lame by nature, at least Louie is refreshingly non-obnoxious and sometimes genuinely humorous. And he keeps his hands and lips to himself. I say God bless 'im. I always wondered why no female ever gave Dawson a smack when he shoved his disgusting lips in her face. I would have. [disclaimer] And by the way, I don’t watch Feud, but for a while a local station was re-running episodes of “The Fugitive”, which were immediately preceded by FF, so I occasionally caught part of it by default. That’s the ONLY reason I know this. ---

Louie Anderson is the host now. I don’t think he is as much a perv as that Richard Dawson guy. Did somebody host before Dick did? ---

Ah, “Family Feud.” The joys of daytime TV in the 70’s… I heard once (which is of course a perfect intro to yet another UL) that Richard Dawson would have the female contestants examined for mouth sores. If they were clean, he’d smooch away. Otherwise, they got a hug and a peck on the cheek. Anyone remember hearing this one? ---

Does this mean I can pass my “newbie with too many ideas” crown to Damhna? I’ve been here a whole two weeks. Richard Dawson was the original host of “Family Feud.” I remember being shocked at the time that any network would make anybody as rude, gross, and annoying as him the host of a game show. But he was good in “The Running Man.” Getting killed helped. For several years in the Nineties a fellow named Ray Combs hosted. Likeable sort, but ratings dropped, then he got dropped, then he dropped himself a few inches too far with a bedsheet rope around his neck. Sad. ---

Ray Combs was the first host during the second run of the show (1988-1995), but Richard Dawson returned to the job for the final season. On a side note, Ray Combs committed suicide in 1996, on his wife’s birthday. Louie Anderson has been the host for the entirety of the show’s third run (1999-current). God bless IMDb. ---

Those are some interesting and insightful thoughts. I think the original requirements to be a host of a game show was to be overly perverted and obnoxious to keep the contestans awake. We still have some of the original prototypes running around on television, just not as many as there used to be.
