I left my iPhone on auto-update and Tapatalk updated itself. Now I can’t see any way of browsing the dope forums individually anymore. When I enter the dope on tapatalk, It now has icons for “Trending”,“recent”,“unread”,“subscribed” and “participated”. Ok thats great, but I just want to browse “general questions”, nope, can’t see any way of doing that anymore? Is this really the case? Tapatalk used to be so simple and easy to use and has got worse and worse with every update. ---

I don’t know if the app is the same on the iphone, but on my android tablet it has basically the same row of icons (trending, timeline, unread, subscribed, participated). To get to the forums, I have to tap on “The Straight Dope” at the top of the screen (which just looks like a title bar). This brings up the main forum categories. Tap on Main and it brings up most of the forums, except for Barn House, which you have to tap on Side Conversations to get to. So to get to General Questions you would tap on The Straight Dope -\> Main -\> General Questions. ---

ok finally I figured that out, but its still terrible to use. its got these horrible huge empty blue bars for every new thread making browsing the thread titles a pain in the ass. They used to be presented cleanly and neatly now its just a mess. Ugh, is there any other iPhone app that can browse the forums? ---

I haven’t used it, but there’s an app called Forum Runner. I have no idea if it’s any good or not. ---

Yeah, the new Tapatalk iPhone app is NOT a step forward. I wish I had kept the old version on my iPhone and iPad mini. Interestingly enough, I have an older iPad that none of the new Tapatalk versions are compatible with, so it still has Tapatalk on it from like 4 generations ago. By far the easiest to use. ---

I would recommend asking Tapatalk instead of the SDMB. Forums that use Tapatalk just install a free plug-in that does the magic. That means that, unfortunately, individual message boards have no control over app updates. However! Good news! Mention your device and its OS – Tapatalk has apps for iOS, Android, Windows Phone, and Windows. I have a Windows Phone and I’ve been really impressed with participation in threads (moledj seems to be the WP guy and he’ll troubleshoot right in the thread, ask for suggestions for future updates, etc). Even when Tapatalk itself went down (over a year ago), they posted in the threads to answer people’s WTF posts.
