News Flash! Morphine can kill those with Kidney Failure!

:D:D:D:D

Gotta love statistics.

I have a great deal of respect for the doc - but I also worship at the feet of Melvin Belli - the lawyer who broke the Malpractice-Proof AMA.
The old rule for proving medical malpractice require finding FIVE other MD’s, all of whom would testify in Court that the treatment was not an acceptable treatment at that time and place.
Want to guess how often an MD lost a malpractice case?

Love-hate and medicine

Oh yes - when discharged from hospital, was given 15 days of medicine with instructions to see my ever-loving PCP.
Today is the first day since 2/16 I would even think of venturing out.

She is now out for 3 weeks.

With some luck, somebody will renew the scripts.

I did manage to find a combo of drugs which would put me to sleep. They also caused a major relapse of the kidney failure.
This is another “got used to it” that I really would not chosen to learn.

For today’s experiment, I laid on my side until both shoulders were at pain level 5, then took the new, improved dosage of dilaudid.
It is better than nothing. But not by much.

I hope to god you ARE on drugs, because if not, you’ve got some serious issues.

Well, today was interesting.
Got a bright and early call that the scripts had been sent to Walgreens

Well, one was.
The biggie - fentanyl - was not,
and the sleeper was cut from 30mg to 15mg and is not available until the 11th.
that is 2 days past my last avail dose - the 15mg is hit-or-miss, which is why I used 30mg

I gave them the option of Lunesta (the one Z drug that works without frying brain like Ambien.

SD - please keep this thread safe. I should have print capability soon so can get hard copy of this wreck
**
Guin** - if I were on the right drugs, I can actually pass for sane.

but it looks like I will need to call the lawyers - they have MD’s who are real good at clearing up messes like this

oh yeah -

it finally hit me that I may precede my cat in death.

poor Niki - she lost her first monkey before she was one year old.

It took 5 years to get her to let me rub her belly, and she is the only cat I’ve known who does not recognize the “hand pointing down, wiggling fingers” sign for “Come and get petted”.

Started working on that one just in time to disappear from her life…

You’re a bit hard to follow and like others I’m worried about you, but I wanted to let you know that the part quoted above was both funny and very relatable.

If our bodies have a suggestion box, nobody’s reading the comment cards, though. :dubious:

Seriously, though, you don’t sound like you’re doing too good…

You want proof that you’re randomly mixing your medications and coming across as less coherent than your average street corner apocalypse preacher? What on earth for?

You want fun?

As i said, i have puberty-onset insomnia.
Since age 12 - cannot sleep without drug. That is 55 YEARS. Enjoying this?
Think about that.

Now: add a constant, every time blood pressure of 160/105.

Docs pleated with me to use script pills.

I refused because I did not want to become dependent on
An MD
A pharmacist
A pharma company

for life.

That lasted until 2000.

Started with a sleeper (no more vodka and diphen) and blood pressure

Then I discover my biggest fear was right: once I used the sleeper, the vodka and diphen no longer worked.
Then the discovery that 4 days of no sleep would NOT cause sleep.

Run those little factoids around your head.

In 2005, I developed osteoarthritis. The bone-on-bone pain known as “the only known way for a male to experience the pain of childbirth”. For one solid year.

Did I mention that I am immune to CNS depressants? Sleepers, pain med, anesthesia, sedatives - they don’t work.
Until the OA, I had found exactly 2 drugs which worked on real pain: Vicodin and Demerol.

Damned right I got real familiar with drugs.

If you think I dreamed of needing opioids, benzo-diazepines, and anti-depressants, guess again.

Now you know why I dislike those who use these drugs as recreation. Those assholes are making my miserable life even more difficult.

I will trade every pill I have or will ever have for a body which needs none.

Let me know if you would like to make that swap.

Right now, if I had not found an old bottle of hydromorphone, I would be dead.
If the sleep mess doesn’t get straighten out real soon, I may yet die.

My hemoglobin, last test (2/21, date of discharge) was 9.7. If that number develops acutely, transfusion is indicated.

For those who don’t know: hemoglobin is produced in the bone marrow in response to epo___, secreted by the kidneys.
Until Epogen (another drug!) was developed, there was little to do with a kidney patient.
If you remember Lance Armstrong - he is the asshole who used Epogen to boost his hemoglobin.

I stopped being “random” with drugs years ago.

Now, if somebody can produce a couple of hits of 5 mic acid, that is the only drug for which I have pleasant memories

Are you getting psychiatric help? Many people who are in chronic pain* also develop problems like depression, PTSD, anger issues, etc & a psychologist or better yet a psychiatrist, given all the drugs that you are on, can be a lot of help.
eta: I think chronic pain was what you said was your issue but now I’m remembering something about pubescent insomnia or something- your posts are hard to follow

2nd edit: forgot that the OP mentioned kidney failure. I need the Reader’s Digest version of this thread.

Actually, I DID see a shrink - for my sleep/wake problems - in college. At the Student Health Center

He promptly gave me:

Sleep: Doriden (street name:ciba, which was stamped on the pill). This was one of the scariest sleepers ever produced. It was pulled from market

Wake: Dextamphetamine (or some such name) - yes, an amphetamine for a 19 year old.

I really should have learned about cut-rate MD’s from that.

I am proud that I tried those for about a week and decided the cure was worse than the disease.

By some miracle, I was able to get enough of a sleeper for 2 weeks - all by paper, no electronic record to screw with.

I slept the sleep of the dead.

And awoke to a phone mas saying “the sleeper will kill you!” (kidney clearance problem).

Nice that you noticed, sweetie - a little late, but better late than never.

I now put everything through their email system - which, they assure me, will make it become a part of my “permanent record”. Actually, I’m kinda counting on that.

So:

This was addressed to the practice - my PCP seems to be on open-ended leave of some sort.
She was blamed for a call scheduling me into their * WE DON’T DO DRUGS* ** NO DRUGS HERE ** *** DO NOT EVEN THINK OF ASKING US FOR DRUGS *** spine center.
A question of “What exactly do you propose to do in the middle of my night?” has gone unanswered.

The only reason I am ever awake at 08:45 (let alone 10 miles across town at 08:45) is excruciating pain.

Of course, my note that the new dosage (2 mg) is NOT adequate (8 at least makes a dent, 12 allows sleep (with nasty sleeper, see insomnia) and 20 causes problems.
2 is about the same as Tylenol (which I did get for old time’s sake)*.

  • twit PCP actually told me to try acetaminophen again - wow! all these years of narcotics and all I really needed to do was buy a bottle of Tylenol!
    Duh!
She also giggled when I inquired about marijuana-derived analgesics. Hee-Hee! He said “marijuana!” hee-hee!

They are keeping the PCP away, for whatever reason.

I didn’t think it would be necessary to put the “put up or shut up” so bluntly, but we shall see

It’s most likely because that shit has been making you unintelligible.

Its never lupus.

Its always Dilaudid.

They understood me well enough to assign a poor young MD to “review medication and hospitalization”

She had all of 2 hours to review approx 20 hours worth of info. But at least I got enough sleepers to recover. On the 15th, I get to renew the fentanyl patch - 2 disappeared during the week I lost (2/24 - 3/4 is gone); #4 fell off about 10 hours in.

Try to stick an invisible patch onto the small of your back after 3 days of no sleep. Do let me know how that goes, won’t you?

and stream-of-consciousness is fascinating.

spoilsport

I just checked the UCD “current medications”

2 I never heard of, a third I was asked if I wanted, but never saw any trace of it.

Shower and food and bed.

Screw this

anybody know a good medical malpractice attorney?
