I like how the late, great radio commentator Paul Harvey handled these kinds of situations. It would go something like this:
“Today there was a shooting today in a shopping mall. The killer would like us to know his name. In other news…”
I would even go along with, “There was a shooting today in a shopping mall. The killer would like us to know his name and that he hates black people. In other news…”
