What’s the word on the street about the next iPhone release? Any guesses about what it will be called? 5S? 6? When are people betting it will be out? ---

It will be the 5s. Expected announcement date is sometime in September, although a persistent rumor has supply shortages pushing the releases date back. ---

Not exactly on-topic (sorry), but my daughter is now on her fourth iPhone 5. Since last November. This afternoon it suddenly told her there was no SIM card installed. She took it to the Apple store, where they found it had overheated to the point of warping the card so it wouldn’t connect. Thank Og for AppleCare, but I don’t think she’ll be up(?)grading. ---

You’ll find a summary of the recent rumours [here](http://buyersguide.macrumors.com/#iPhone). It’s possible there will be two: an updated 5 called the 5s, and a new lower cost model with a plastic back. ---

I have left my iPhone (black) in the car in direct sunlight for over an hour in 100 degree heat. I got on overheat warning ( and it was hot as hell to the touch) but a few minutes later it was fine. What did your daughter do bake it with some cookies in the oven? ---

Yeah, I have no direct experience with the iPhone, but when one person goes through 4 electronic devices that have decent reliability in 8 months, I’m thinking it’s maybe not the phones’ fault. As far as the OP – there are a ton of rumors about the next iPhone. Near as I can tell, the 5S will have the same form factor as the current model (some rumors claim a bigger screen, but most people don’t believe that) and the big new feature will probably be a fingerprint sensor that will be used, among other things, for doing purchases. I imagine that the usual improvements will be included – somewhat better battery life, faster processor and a new version of the operating system. ---

Regardless of culpability, there might be other phones that are better suited for her lifestyle. The iphone is rather delicate compared to other smartphones. ---

The only rumor that I have heard aside from this is slow motion video. There will probably be an improved camera in any case. ---

Perhaps she should downgrade. I’ve had an iPhone 4 for over two years with almost no problems (the home button doesn’t always register a push anymore, which is a little annoying). ---

What happened to the other three? All defective? Or is she maybe not the best caretaker of her phones?
