There is also the raging argument between those who hate everyone who isn’t young and unencumbered enough to return their grocery carts to the line-up vs those of us who remember actual customer service and expect the store to hire some staff. Seriously, when did it become a moral imperative for me to do their jobs for them?

Seriously, is the reason that shopping carts are abandoned in the parking lot (including in parking spaces, or obstructing vehicles) 1) people are robust enough to take the carts out to their cars, but too frail and/or handicapped to go an additional short distance to leave their carts in the designated corral, or 2) that it’s the store’s fault for not hiring enough Cart Cowboys?

I blame the store for not having bollards to block carts from leaving the store.

Think Nextdoor is outrageous? Welcome to my life. I’m the local official who has to respond to complaints of these sort and determine whether an actual code violation has occurred or if some uptight, busybody…individual simply has their undies in a twist.
I just love it when I take complaints where someone calls dripping with indignation over some perceived infraction. A first cue the complaint is probably going to be bs is when someone prefaces their complaint with some sort of declaratory remark about how this person is a bad egg…of dubious character…selfish…unreasonable…inconsiderate…criminal. So you say they’re parking next to their driveway ON THE GRASS?! Clearly, this is a moral failing on their part. Must be a real bad hombre we’re talking about. What’s that you say this individual also frequently has cars belonging to non-family members parked in front of their house after midnight? Gotta be narcotics involved somehow. [sigh]

Omg my late father would have loved to be have had somewhere to complain about that stuff. He was convinced one set of neighbours were a car stealing ring because they had several cars between the several adults in the household and then, gasp, they would turn up in a different car! And the parking on the grass.

The majority of the posts on my neighborhood’s Nextdoor site are:

• What was that sound?
• Why is there a helicopter circling X area?
• How dare they approve of new residential developments after I have moved in!
• Coyote sightings
• missing small pets (see above)
  snip.

These are the same ones I see in my ND site, along with
–the city and the police and community need to get it together and do something about all the homeless camps popping up all over the place (a valid concern, and frustrating, because if you call the city, they tell you to call the police; call the cops and they tell you the city needs to get on the ball)
