I’m rewatching the Bengals/Browns game that was in Cincinatti. It can be hard to gauge the number of Browns fans there because the teams’ colors are similar, but the biggest cheers were for plays the Browns made. It was a clear difference. It certainly sounds like there were more Browns fans than Bengals fans there and I read a tweet that suggested that the stadium had a significant amount of Browns fans. If true, that’s a pretty pathetic showing for a team that was 5-3 and unexpectedly good this year.

The last three weeks of this season will be absolutely insane in the AFC North. It’s likely that all 4 teams will be playoff alive and have a shot at the division title. CIN-BAL, CLE-PIT, PIT-BAL, etc. Greatest divisional bloodbath the TV ratings could wish for.

And it will be a bloodbath. AFC North teams play each other harder than any other teams in the league.

AFC West might be a crazy finish too, though maybe not quite as hard hitting. All four teams are at 5 wins right now, and nobody looks particularly likely to put a bunch of wins together.

The whole AFC is nuts. Cinci was the #1 seed in the conference 2 weeks ago, now they’re the 4th place in their division and 7th seed in the conference. There are 8 teams with 5 wins in the AFC, and another 2 with more wins.

Giants represent! The only NFC team to beat an AFC team this week.

Over the past decade I’ve watched a lot of bad football with a lot of atrocious quarterback play. That Packers @ Chiefs game fit right in with the kind of games I’ve been watching.

My litmus test for utter suckfest is If you struggle to reach triple-digit passing yards by the 4th quarter. When the 4th quarter started, if I remember correctly, Love had passed for 102 yards while Mahomes had passed for 122. That’s exactly the kind of suckfest I’ve watched countless times before.

Love finally showed a spark in the fourth quarter with a touchdown drive, but wow, he looked _terrible_ for having had a full year to learn. At one point in the third quarter I actually had to look up when he was drafted because I started thinking “He had to have been drafted this year. There’s no way he could be this bad with a year under his belt.” Nope, this is his second year. That’s not a great sign. Then again, devil’s advocate, Love’s one year on the bench was the covid year.

(I’m basing this on a possibly incorrect memory of both Philip Rivers and Aaron Rodgers lighting it up from their very first start after waiting for a year or three on the bench. Possibly also Mahomes. Corrections welcome.)

24-19 over da vikes, 178 passing yards 2 TDs.

FWIW, Favre won his first game (as a sub, though), too.

Yup, and there were no preseason games last year, either; between that, and the fact that Love spent the entire 2020 regular season on the inactive list, as the Packers’ third-string QB, meant that he saw no live game action at all during his rookie year.

Mahomes’ first start in the NFL was in Denver, in the last regular-season game in his rookie year. He was 22-35 for 284 yards, no TDs, one INT. He played for 3+ quarters, then Tyler Bray came in at QB. After two ineffective series by Bray (including his fumble which was returned for a TD), Mahomes came back with the score tied at 24 and 3 minutes to play. He took the Chiefs down the field for a game-winning FG as time expired.

Bears get absolutely hosed on a call, followed by two questionable no-calls on the Steelers. Cost them four points.

The first no-call was probably okay, as it was a late slide by Fields. But the second one was not okay. DL had two full steps before he blasted Fields in the back. Have to throw the flag there, ref.
