The Cowboys are a good candidate to grab Jones. Sadly, I don’t think he could learn the playbook in time. But it would be awesome if he took a few snaps. ---

The Ravens-Chargers is the only game this week that has both teams over .500. The Seahawks, 49ers, and Rams are all 5-5 and are playing teams over .500. I don’t know if this is unusual this time of year, but I thought it was interesting. ---

With both teams trying their absolute best toward the end of the game to keep the other team alive. Washington missed a PAT that would have tied it up with 21 second left. Dallas returned the ensuing onside kick for a touchdown instead of just going down, which would have ended the game as Washington was out of timeouts. ---

More than that. Dallas leading 20-9 3:02 left, Washington scores a touchdown, and 2-point conversion to bring the score to 20-17. Washinton kicks off, Dallas returner lets ball go between his legs, picks it up, and returns it for a touchdown. 27-17. Washington takes the next drive, kicks a 51-yard field goal on 2nd down. 1:40 left, Dallas leads 27-20. Onside kick by Washington, recovered by Dallas. Washington uses their last timeouts and forces a Dallas punt. Washington gets the ball on their own 14 with 40 seconds left. Their next play is an 86-yard touchdown pass. They miss the extra point. 0:21 left, Dallas leads 27-26. Onside kick again, recovered by Dallas and returned for a touchdown. 0:14 left, Dallas leads 34-26. Washington tried a Hail Mary of their final play; it was short of the end zone and intercepted. ---

Have the rules for a safety changed? I thought that the team that was safetied punted the ball from their own 20. In the TEN-HOU game, late in the 4th quarter, the Titans got a safety to go ahead 32-27. The Texans then tried an onside kick instead of punting from their 20. Is this a new thing or has this always been the rule? ---

The kick after a safety is a “free kick,” and while teams nearly always execute the post-safety free kick via a punt, it does not _have_ to be a punt; it can be a placekick. (Or a drop kick, for that matter.) And, yes, it can be done as an onside kick – it’s something that’s nearly never tried, largely because you’re kicking from so deep in your end of the field. But, if it’s late in the game, and you’re in desperation mode already, there’s little harm in trying. ---

By the way, after the Commanders failed to tie the game late because of a missed extra point kick, that kicker who missed (and he missed the PAT twice in that game just FYI) had this face which is just awesome. This is the ultimate “I just fucked up so bad” face and needs to be a meme.
