From what I’ve been reading, and from the videos I’ve watched from analysts, the NFL wants time to look into him. He didn’t apply to the draft, so he wasn’t really on their radar, and the supplemental draft request came on relatively short notice.

So, to me it doesn’t look like the NFL has really conceded anything. He’s eligible for the 2027 draft unless the NFL has a reason to declare him ineligible, and this gives them a year to look into his past and wait to see if any other stories come out about his gambling problems or other issues.

My guess is that they’re probably going to pass on him. I expect them to weigh the risk vs reward and say, no thanks. They have a year to do it. And their “right to investigate his actions further” gives them all the room to do exactly that.

I’ll guess he is eligible for the draft, doesn’t get chosen, and some team signs him as a free agent even if he never makes it past the practice squad. But who knows what will happen between now and next April.

Nah, some team will take him. There will always be QB needy teams, many with poor judgment.

The main issue is next year’s draft is projected to be QB rich. He was hoping to play another year in college to develop further and improve his draft stock. Well, that plan went down in flames. But, as long as he keeps his nose clean otherwise, I doubt he gets past the 3rd or 4th round next year.

Whether or not he becomes a contributor is up to him and the coaches. That’s one issue with desperate teams - they often have other structural issues that don’t lend themselves well to player development, either, no matter how hard working or talented the rookie (not that I’m implying Sorsby is or isn’t either of those or that he would have been a steal otherwise).

If a bunch of teams agree that he sucks, or at least he isn’t good enough to be worth the risk, is it collusion? He’d have to get some kind of proof that they all got together in an organized way and decided not to hire him regardless of whether they wanted to or not.

Colin Kaepernick was able to at least get the NFL to settle when he sued them, but I don’t think Sorsby would have as strong of a case.

The Elder Ottlet (a confirmed Swiftie) sent me an Apple News link to the effect that they’ve already married in a private ceremony. Makes sense if it discourages even 1% of the paparazzi.

And in the most important news of the day, apparently she is going to be traditional and become Taylor Kelce. Professionally she will continue to be Taylor Swift.

I know everyone was waiting for the news.

A newly-released study contains yet more disturbing news about the connection between playing football and brain disorders.

>
> The researchers studied 19,824 athletes who played in the NFL between 1960 and 2019, including the 1,994 who have died, calling it the “biggest retrospective cohort study to date.” They found the rate of neurodegenerative death was “more significant” for younger players: Those who died before age 60 had 12-fold higher rates of neurodegenerative death than the general population, according to the study.

The Seahawks have made a deal to sell the team to an investor group, led by venture capitalist Vinod Khosla; reports are that the deal is for $9.6 billion. The deal, of course, will need to be approved by the league’s ownership.

Khosla and his family currently are limited partners in the 49ers’ ownership group, and would have to divest that ownership stake in order to finalize the Seahawks deal.

The Seahawks were owned by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen since 1997. Allen’s will directed that his ownership of the Seahawks (and of the NBA’s Portland Trail Blazers) be eventually sold, with the proceeds going to charity; Allen’s sister Jody, who is the executor of her brother’s trust, has controlled the team since his death in 2018.

But in any case he has a very simple and straightforward path to getting cut and he has so far refused. Being weird in social media videos ain’t gonna do it.

As this saga continues, what is the reason Aiyuk hasn’t taken the necessary step of filing for reinstatement? I assume he must think he somehow gains leverage by refusing to do so. But how?

He’s only said he’s refusing to have anything to do with the 49ers, including (presumably) showing up like he has to. Filling to be reinstated could be thought of as not dealing with the Niners, but it’s all one process. He has no leverage. It just looks like he’s trying to insult and irritate them into cutting bait, but he’s already inside the cooler, so to speak.
