NFL Divisional Weekend

What word would that be?

The one from post 76 that I alluded to in a prior post.

Of course i you were doing it on purpose it would be trolling. But since you aren’t it is clearly just an indication of idiocy.

Cute, but not exactly helping your case.

Well that makes me less nervous…

Agree with Aikman there. The Bears really wanted to eliminate those pricks in week 17.

Going up 4 scores ends the game, while the risk isn’t all that great. The Falcons haven’t eclipsed 200 yards of offense yet, so I don’t think it’s that big of a risk.

I want to see Matt Flynn, Howard Green, Robert Francois, and the rest of the bench from here on out.

Bring on the Seahawks!!! (or the Bears, which is really much more likely).

Shields, give up the damn catch and don’t be a hero. We need you next week.

My case for what?

This is getting a little ridiculous.

Well, the Bears ate the Packers up in the regular season (in the one game that mattered), so they’ll have no problem with Green Bay next week.

In all seriousness, the Falcons sure as hell didn’t give the Packers much of a fight.

Great win. The Packers came into Atlanta and just dominated. They were able to overcome early mistakes and played a helluva game. A throughly dominate performance.

Given the amount of injuries and close loses, I think McCarthy should be the Coach of the Year. I don’t necessarily like all of his playcalling, or the teams penchant for arrogance, but to take a team devastated by injuries to the NFC Championship (and hopefully beyond) is great work.

Fantastic game. Can’t wait till next week.

In equal seriousness, the Falcons aren’t really built to come back. When Tramon Williams had that pick-six, and then the Packers got the ball to open the half and got the TD, Atlanta was in deep trouble.

The Packers, meanwhile, are built for blowouts. For some reason, they aren’t that good in close games but when they’re on, it’s going to be ugly.

So, for that playoff prediction contest, I was going to sim the games in Madden to get the final scores. I decided against it because my first result was Packers 48, Falcons 28, which I knew there was no chance of happening.

Palm, meet face.

As an aside, I’m really beginning to detest Atlanta fans. I disliked how they were with the Braves, barely getting much attendance in the playoffs and whining incessantly if they didn’t make the playoffs. But watching how early they deserted their team tonight, even if they were losing, is pathetic. Atlanta is now on my list.

Offered just in case anyone ever gives Dio’s opinion on football any credence whatsoever.

I feel like an intellectual fraud for saying this, but the past few weeks have really changed my opinion of Big Mac. It’s hard to criticize the head coach of the team we saw tonight.

Eh, let’s not get too fired up. You can’t really credit McCarthy for the 4 turnovers which were decisive. The Falcons really did their best to hand this puppy over on a silver platter. Rodgers was lights out and McCarthy gets credit for a share of that, but the Falcons didn’t even put up token effort and most of those issues weren’t on account of scheme. It’s not like most of those TOs were even a result of Caper’s scheme, they were just crap plays by the Falcons and great individual efforts by the Packers defenders.

Two of those turnovers weren’t really all that decisive. That pick-six was the play of the game, though.

When I say my opinion has changed, I mean I no longer want to fire him. He’s quit doing a lot of the things that have annoyed me over the years. Against Philly the Packers probably had six 3rd-and-short situations, and not a 5-wide look among them! I’m still worried about their ability to win a close game, but I have to give McCarthy some credit for where the team is now.
