[The very last thing](https://www.usatoday.com/sports/nfl/arrests/) [the National Football League](https://broadly.vice.com/en_us/article/8qwpm4/2015-nfl-report) should be doing is crafting a ceremony that honors these motherfucking\*\* hoodlums. Oh, yes. All these accusations! Obviously guilty! Reminds me of the music industry. Michael Jackson was accused of sexual assault and they did nothing about curbing sexual harassment and did nothing about ending fucking racism. Hell, $9 billion is peanuts compared to the music industry, yet they won’t even wear pink to try to eliminate breast cancer. Crazy! ---

Is this a new thing? Hasn’t the NFL (and the leagues of other sports as well) been recognizing seasonal accomplishments like most yards gained and highest number of sacks and whatnot for a long long time? ---

Yes, and there are even awards to celebrate the best among the vast majority of NFL athletes who aren’t terrible human beings and who are actually very good human beings who do good works in society on an ongoing basis. It’s been a while, but maybe you’re thinking of DB [Eugene Robinson](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eugene_Robinson) of the 1998 Atlanta Falcons, who was awarded the Athletes in Action/Bart Starr Award, given annually to a player who best exemplifies outstanding character and leadership in the home, on the field and in the community, the day before Super Bowl XXXIII. He was groggy and missed a few plays in the game, because he’d been up all night in the police station after propositioning an undercover cop in a prostitution sting. ---

There are people arrested for crimes in every single line of work, including the priesthood. I don’t think a sports organization can ‘end racism.’ But, playing team sports is actually a good way for people to interact with those from different backgrounds and races. It’s pretty hard to be racist against the guy of a different race that has just scored a game winning touchdown. ---

I’m still confused about when the NFL instituted awards honoring players or teams with the highest number of arrests\* or most grievous crimes. \*though the Cincinnati Bengals deserve some sort of lifetime recognition honors in this category. ---
