I didn’t watch Hard Knocks, but I heard the show added some clarity to why the Browns were so desperate to get rid of Corey Coleman. Not a great work ethic and not great hands. Ok, I still think a 7th round pick 2 drafts from now is not a great trade, but fine. They wanted him gone, he’s gone. Didn’t catch any of the preseason game, either. But let’s not forget, the Browns were undefeated last preseason. ---

Newton is inaccurate. Newton doesn’t throw a very catchable ball. And Newton isn’t a very cerebral QB. And Newton is at least as big as, if not a bigger diva, than Benjamin. Huh, the Browns are playing the Eagles as the only game this week. Does the preseason normally focus on the Hard Knocks team like this? Anyway, if you want to see the greatest QB of all time in his very first baby steps, tune in. ---

Interesting. That article seems to indicate the Browns expect Gordon to be back by week 1. That might be what they’re saying publicly, but I suspect they aren’t quite so confident. ---

If it was a slam dunk guarantee that Gordon was on the week 1 roster, then I’d think the child support judge could just make sure the payment was made the second Gordon received his payment for week 1 of the NFL season. ---

For reasons only known to God, I found myself watching the Browns preseason game against the Bills. Is it insane of me to think the Browns have a legitimate shot at an 8-8 season? I know that’s not a great thing, but for a team that went 1-31 the last two seasons, 8-8 is huge progress. I liked what I saw out of Mayfield, their first team defense held the Bills to 4 three and outs, and they had an actual running game. Of course Hue Jackson is still an idiot (it’s preseason and you’re 1-31, don’t fucking punt on 4th and short), so they’re capped, but there may be hope in Cleveland that this season may not suck. And, as an aside, why the fuck are people blowing smoke up Josh Allen’s ass? He threw for less than 7 yards per completion, and he’s getting all kinds of praise and being anointed as the obvious starter for the Bills. He had some nice movement on his TD throw (set up by a defensive penalty and a coue.nice rushes by a rb), but let’s not cream all over a guy for making easy throws. But, whatever. He’s a first round pick, so there you go. So, it’s weird, but: Go Browns?!!! ---

I think 6-8 wins is definitely a possibility. The Browns weren’t historically bad last year - it’s not like you’d point to them and be like “none of those players belong in this league” or anything. Or for point of comparison, the 2008 Lions were a much worse 0-16 team. The defense was in the top half, the O-line was very good. The team was almost entirely destroyed by bad QB play. It was actually amazing how many red zone turnovers they had - they’d have a productive offense marching down the field and give the ball away over and over again. Just going to Tyrod Taylor, who is a guy who won’t single handedly lose games, is easily a 5 game improvement over last year. Also, had no OC. He can’t even handle the responsibilities of HC, let alone HC/OC, and that should be a significant change for the better. They weren’t as bad as 1-31 suggests and plugging a few leaks is enough to make a significant amount of progress. ---
