NFL Offseason - Free Agency through Minicamps

While the NFL’s personal conduct policy certainly needs more work, I find it really, really difficult to give a shit about a guy who beat, choked, and threatened to kill a woman, and then paid her off to get out of a criminal conviction.

I don’t give a shit about Hardy (or the Cowboys), but I think it’s reasonable to expect a clear policy and set of guidelines for punishments. And it’s fine to have some level of subjectivity, as long as you can articulate the reasons for straying from the guidelines. Suspensions have ramifications far beyond the impact on the player, after all. Teams are making draft picks and trades based on what expected suspensions are, and it sucks when you are essentially rolling dice instead.

The Colts? Why them?

The only ball that was found to be significantly under pressure was the one the Colts intercepted - the only one they got their hands on. It *could *be just a coincidence, of course. The intercepting player says he didn’t notice anything unusual about it.

Less well-founded information is that John Harbaugh gave them the idea.

Nicole Holder is actually far more at fault that Greg Hardy. She was strung out on cocaine that night and Hardy called 911 on her. This waitress, who also had a fling with Nelly, is a classic gold digger with facebook posts showing exactly how she’s spending the extortion money.

I’m certainly not a Cowboys fan and Hardy certainly isn’t an angel, but no suspension is warranted and I think it’ll be overruled.

I will give your opinion on this issue as much credence as I do any of your opinions on domestic violence or rape, which is none.

I live in Charlotte, and the papers and sports talk radio covered this story from every possible angle. While Holder certainly isn’t an angel herself, saying that she was “far more at fault” than Hardy is pretty tough to swallow. Neither of them are innocent, but Hardy did what he did. The original judge in the case saw the evidence and found him guilty. Only a loophole in the law and a payoff allowed him to get off.

I agree that the NFL needs to be more consistent though.

Dion Jordan suspended for the 2015 season. What an idiot! Gave a diluted sample. Maybe some of those diluted samples will beat Walmart drug tests, but it takes nerve to try that at the NFL level.

I’ll assume it’s for pot, and yeah it should be legal, but the stupidity of NFL players never ceases to amaze me. Losing millions of dollars just to smoke up.

Josh Brent ‘retires’ from the NFL. I’m giving him no benefit of the doubt here.

Man, I know things are fucked up in his life, but how the hell does he pay the bills after all that without a football paycheck?

Just heard that the Jags’ first round pick tore his ACL, and is gonna miss the season.

My condolences to the few fans.

I made a thread about the new extra point rule

Really hard to agree with the Bears giving in to the internet lynch mob and cutting Ray McDonald immediately. It’s May, there’s plenty of time until training camp much less the regular season.

Seems like some ugly baby mama drama. He’s an idiot for being anywhere near her, just pay the required child support and let his lawyer handle things.

If this turns out to be nothing and no charges filed, McDonald will easily land with another team

Virginia McCaskey probably put her foot down.

Or they didn’t want a serial woman beater on their team.

He pretty clearly was under a zero-tolerance policy. The Bears made no bones about it. I have no idea what the particulars of this incident are, but simply being in a position to be accused of anything like this again is plenty of reason to give him the boot.

It was said in back in SF that while his case wasn’t quite as cut and dry as the Ray Rice and Greg Hardy cases, he at least had a pattern of bad decision making. There isn’t any question that this is more of the same at best. He’s not worth the trouble.

Even if this turns out to be a case of some woman using the legal system as a weapon he’s still guilty of being with that person at 3:45 AM knowing full well that he’s got zero rope to work with and a track record of criminal accusations with this person. I have as much sympathy for him as I do the star who gets caught up in gang violence or a drug bust because he’s hanging with his hood rat friends.

You’re a millionaire, upgrade your life. Plenty of college kids graduate and get jobs and manage to separate from their druggie raver girlfriends and drunken bar brawling bros in order to make it to their lame office job on time, shouldn’t be that hard for an athlete.

You know those touching stadium moments when they show a veteran in the stands on the jumbotron and thank him for his service? Those are just part of marketing deals between the NFL and DoD.

I wonder what the league earns for wearing pink for a month.

You are nothing if not predictable.

Well, Greg Hardy get’s his appeal tomorrow, so more is probably in store!

Why wait?

Ray McDonald was arrested again this evening for violating the restraining order that was issued only two days ago when he was arrested on domestic violence and child endangerment charges.

But i’m sure that dalej42 will be along soon to explain how it’s all the fault of the gold-digging whore and her baby.
