Now darlin, you know how I feel about Atlanta. (former Oiler fan)
Still… Vick _is_ pretty cool. It’s not like I have an especially vested interest in anybody at this time…

Sure, why not. Knowing it would make a friend happy is a good reason. 😉

when the broncos’ talent catches up with their mouths, they’ll have a team.

two years in a row they come to indy talking trash to everyone that’ll listen. the colts are soft, the colts are soft. last year it was washed-up tight end shannon sharpe, this year it’s washed-up safety john lynch. well, two years in a row they get booted from the playoffs and their jocks handed to them by the softies.

i don’t think the broncos are smart enough to figure out that tony dungy wanted to play them yesterday. the colts basically handed them last week’s game, knowing that they’d have them at home next. dungy knew the colts could run all over the broncos, so he sat half the team last week and didn’t give the broncs the chance to feel them out before the game that really mattered.

i felt sorry for the bronco secondary in that game. that rookie was getting SMOKED by reggie “bruce” wayne. and it wasn’t just the catches, it was the moves afterwards. soft, huh? shanahan’s game plan was horrible. it’s like wayne wasn’t even covered. and john lynch? i didn’t even notice him.

Yeah, all that. And their shoes were so tacky.

Indy has been scored on lot this year, hence all the refs to their ‘soft’ defense. But, when the offense scores like that, almost at will, what can one say? Final score is what matters, and they do pretty good in that regard.

Next week should be really wild. All 4 games.

I don’t think you can really blame defenses for not being able to cover, on every play, Harrison, Wayne, Stokley and Clark and being able to bring in anything more than warm bodies if Mungro and James are in the backfield. The Colts easily have as many offensive weapons as any other team in the past ten years. I think it says more about the Colts having three 1,000-yard receivers than it does about Shanahan trying to design a coverage scheme to guard against Peyton Manning and an offense that’s extremely potent.

Incidentally, if you look at how much time Indy’s defense is on the field, there’s (I think) an argument to be made that part of the reason they give up yards and points is that they’re on the field so damn much. Indy’s offense was 26th in the league, I think the stat was, in terms of average time of possession. (They ranked first in points scored, natch).

sure. who do you double up on? i see the argument. wayne, harrison, and stokely can kill you. then you add in marcus pollard and dallas clark, who both can make big plays. then in short yardage situations they’ll rotate in mungro, lipinski, hartsock, and some other nonames that can catch a lob while the other team is worried about the big guys.

but reggie was out there KILLING them. maybe they were going for the lesser of two or three evils? who knows. all i know is that it didn’t work.

Consider this: IMO, Reggie Wayne is at least talented enough to be the second or first receiver on most teams. Indy’s pass game is based on speed and hands (Dallas Clark’s catch was fucking spectacular. That man is built like a damn brick). Name two teams that have, each of them, three guys who can match Harrison, Stokley and Wayne for moves and speed. My guess is that Stokley kept getting open on reliable routes and Manning kept taking them.

Any receiver on that team has the capability of going for 250+ yards receiving in any one game. Had Peyton Manning wanted it, Stokley could have caught 15 passes on Sunday. That offense has shown that on any given day anyone can put up disgusting one-game numbers, and sometimes two guys will (two receivers with three TD catches in the same game, anyone?). If you can find a team able to generate an above-average pass rush _and_ cover Harrison, Wayne and Stokley on every play, you still have to account for Pollard, Clark, James, Mungro or whoever on any given play. There are simply too many factors for these guys to be shut down against any but great defenses.

At least it was a good game. Better that than to be a Broncos fan.

I was surprised to learn that the Jets were the only team to beat the Chargers in San Diego all season. And they did it twice. Ouch.

I strongly disagree with all the criticism leveled at Marty for the conservative playcalling. If I ever have the ball inside the 25 in overtime, I will always run run run kick, just like they did. Rookie or not, raining or not, that should be much higher percentage than airing the ball out, even as a screen or flats route.

In hindsight, the Jets got a little help from Big Blue. That rookie kicker was drafted with a Giants pick; it was one of the picks that came over in the Manning/Rivers trade deal. New York solidarity at its finest.
