Could someone please explain to me how to read the Vegas odds? ---

So if someone said St. Louis covers, then they mean Seattle would win but by less than three points. If St. Louis should win that’s out the window. The last number is the over/under. This is the combined score of both teams. So when someone says under, they believe the combined score of both teams will be under that 47.5, over the opposite. When you have a decimal point in either number, that’s Vegas hedging their bets. Clear? ---

I mean, all a decimal point signifies is that there can’t be any tied bets; you either win or you lose. Seems to me that this can cost the house money on some days, but win it money on others. ---

You might see: Miami [-160] Buffalo [+260] For example, you bet on Miami -160 to beat Buffalo +260. You must bet $160 to win $100 if Miami wins the game. Your friend bets on Buffalo. Your friend must bet $100 to win $260 if Buffalo wins. ---

Oops **mhendo** I was just having fun with their inability to commit, one way or another. That and I hate typing .5 six or seven times a week. After next weeks games I’m thinking of doing a quarter season, sort of a jump to conclusions thread. Anyone interested? ---
