Of course, since the odds are pretty good that a fairly high percentage of the members of the two Super Bowl teams will be voted to the Pro Bowl it means we don’t get to see ‘the best against the best’ which ISTM was always supposed to be one of the reason to watch this type of contest.
Also true; the change in date means that any players from the two Super Bowl teams who were selected to the Pro Bowl don’t play in it anymore.
I believe they put the Pro Bowl ahead of the Super Bowl because people were less interested in it as a “following act”. Since that doesn’t seem to be working I think it would be better if it was held afterward again so that they might be able to have everyone in it again.
And move it back to Hawaii - I think that that as a vacation spot helped convince a lot of players to attend with their families.
In terms of team composition, how is or was the Pro Bowl different from an All-Star game? Come to think of it, does football even have an All-Star game?
The Pro Bowl is the NFL’s equivalent of an All-Star game. Traditionally, it pitted the best players in the AFC against the best players in the NFC, much like MLB’s All-Star Game pits star NL players against star AL players.
And do fans get to vote for their picks by mailing in an entry form that comes free when you buy a pack of Gillette razor blades?
Not any more.
Though, fans still do get to vote online.
Yup! I vote most years.
Baseball should play in the rain, like a real sport. ![]()
And in a driving snow storm. With the field solid ice.
Hockey could do it, but I think basketball would be right out, too.
No! Then you can do basketball on skates, which I call baskateball!
You can dribble on ice, why not?
