I don’t see anyway it won’t happen. The people voting on one side are the owners who don’t want to pay rookies that much, and on the other side are veterans who want more of the money for veterans not rookies. The players who will be coming in as rookies under the agreement don’t have a vote because they aren’t in the system yet. The only voice against cutting rookie scale severely will be the agents, but they can only work through their influence with the vets, who would be voting against their own pockets.

I hope you are right. I’ve been railing against the uber-inflation of rookie salaries and guaranteed money for…ever.

It’d be nice in addition to making unproven players actually, you know, _earn_ their money via playing, but also to help undo first-round holdouts, which have become the norm in many instances.

> Remember there will be a new Labor contract for the 2011 season. The incoming rookies are guaranteed to be much cheeper. Nearly every GM hates early first round picks because of the money spent on unproven players, but in 2011 first round picks will be worth much more.

Why would they be cheaper? An uncapped year likely means the top draft picks will get even _more_ money, since teams can front-load their cap charges.

ETA: I do hope (and think) we’ll get a rookie slotting system soon. It’s simply ridiculous that Matt Stafford got a bigger signing bonus than Peyton Manning.

Cementing a new CBA would mean a NEW cap, not an uncapped year. I don’t think the owners want uncapped salaries in the NFL.

And as for your Stafford versus Manning comment…tounge planted firmly in cheek, right?

I misread his post. I don’t think the new CBA will be done in time for 2011.

As far as Stafford versus Manning… er, no, I’m quite serious. Are you sure you read that right?

Owners threaten a lockout; players threaten a strike. Like how the missing season in the NHL was an owner lockout.

Everything I’ve heard is that the owners are threatening a lockout. I’ve never once heard that the players are threatening to strike.

A strike might be kind of fun. Will the Redskins sign Keanu Reeves to play quarterback?

Well I think the NFL players association may have the same problem the NBA players do. So many of the idiots are living at the extreme end of their means, many can’t strike because the simply can’t afford to miss a paycheck.

There really might be something to that. I hope so. Owners are\* supposed\* to make the most money because they…you know…own the team, and such.

Back in the day when owners raped players, the Union needed and got a voice. Now, it’s swung the other way in terms of negotiations. Similar to other Union situations.

Grr stupid roided Vikings DTs are able to play week 1 even though the other players involved in the same bust will be suspended.

No, but that guarantees they will win the Superbowl again!

From the looks of it, neither is Richard since he has yet to report or even communicate with the Raiders organization. Not that I blame him. 😃

Only a matter of time before the Raiders trade Nnamdi Asomugha to the Walt Disney Company for the DVD rights to Flight of the Navigator.
