When I Google the NFL standings they show the points for and against in each team’s stats. But they don’t do that for the MLB standings. Any particular reason? ---

They do show runs for and against in the standings on [mlb.com](http://mlb.com). ---

Probably because there are more games to work with and generally more team based statistics to work with in baseball. MLB fans are going to be more interested in how many games back teams are in their division as well as recent win/loss streaks and so on. That’s less important for the NFL where there are only 17 games in the season, while a bottom-feeding MLB team may be more than 17 games back in their division. Any sports site will have run differential in the expanded stats of course. ---

ESPN’s MLB standings page also shows runs scored and given up, as well as a bunch of additional stats (record at home vs. away, run differential, current streak, etc.) A truncated standings chart (like what @mixdenny apparently found on Google) might only show wins and losses, but I’ve seen simple NFL standings charts that do the same. > **[2022 MLB Standings | ESPN](https://www.espn.com/mlb/standings)** > > Visit ESPN to view the 2022 MLB Standings ---

In the NFL playoffs, points scored and given up can factor into whether your season continues. It’s a fairly low likelihood that they’ll ever get to that level of tiebreaker, but it is possible. In MLB, number of runs scored or given up never factors into playoffs. But I don’t think that’s why it’s included in the standings.
