Holy shit, you guys were not kidding. Those 49ers uniforms are a heinous, though still not as bad as the Browns. And Chris Berman is abysmal. Even worse, Trent Dilfer as the color man was almost as bad as Berman calling the plays. Normally if one guy is awful you get a break when the second guy starts talking, but it was just all bad all the time.

I’ve always thought that calling a football game is the toughest job in sports announcing, at least the sports I watch (I can never follow a hockey puck, but I don’t care). To be good at it, you have to know a hundred or so players’ names at a glance, you have to be able to read offenses and defenses, and you have to have a quick eye, brain, and mouth. No comparison with leisurely sports like golf and baseball, or those confined to a small area and a small number of players, like basketball and tennis. So I can understand how people can not be good at it.

What I can’t understand is why major networks let them do it anyway.

The Berman/Dilfer combo was pretty bad. And as much as I dislike Dilfer, Berman was worse. Berman doesn’t call play by play very often anymore. You could tell he was out of practice. I don’t know why he was even doing it, to be honest.

It’s really quite sad that this is the sort of thing that passes for a _positive_ statement about one’s chosen NFL team these days…

I am wondering if this is the NFL’s plan. Since the players and NFLPA have been suing over every suspension the office has laid down, they decided to go soft and let the injuries pile up until the players and union demand the harsher penalties and pin the responsibility on them. Then, Goodell can throw his hands in the air and say " Well, if you insist!"

ESPN lets him do one game a year. It’s always terrible.

Gotta say, a one catch 63-yard reception by Willie Snead is probably the greatest professional football acheivement by a Ball State Cardinal…pretty much ever.

How bad is Berman? In desperation to find someone who doesn’t suck, ESPN actually let Mike & Mike call the second game in the season-opening double-header a couple years ago. It was not good.

Believe it or not, Ball State produced [a three-time Pro Bowler](http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/B/BrowTi01.htm), who went on to some [small level of fame](http://www.screeninsults.com/images/mash-spearchucker-football.JPG) as an [actor](http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0114790/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1).

Thank you for this, I had no idea this guy existed.

And in the reign of Letterman, Shelley Long, and Doug Jones…even our athletes are actors!

Marshawn Lynch’s mother takes to Facebook. She should ask Larry Fitzgerald and RG III for information about how well things work out when parents of NFL players run their mouths.

His arms best used by date was four years ago.

So those were not some 49er throwback uniforms?

Her baby boy got stopped on fourth and one. Just like he would have been in the Super Bowl. You’ve got no complaint there.

And, he’s an ass, because that’s the son you raised, Mama. Kids learn by example, yanno.
