Ugh, what an awful game from the Browns. The O-line is not okay.

Coach Pettine did a bad job today. I think he had a Tin Cup moment, when Hoyer missed Cameron in the end zone and they had to settle for a FG to go up 6-0. I think missing out on the TD frustrated him, because the Browns were clearly better than Jax but couldn’t get into the endzone, so he gambled on 4th down instead of going up 9-0. If you gamble on 4th and short, you better be able to get it on the ground, but he clearly wasn’t confident they could do it and tried a play action pass, which failed. That fixation on trying to get back the missed TD changed the whole complexion of the game. They probably could have gutted out a 12-10 win if they had been a bit more conservative on offense.

There was no doubt in my mind that it would be a Philly fan to answer. We’re experts.

Geez, this game is painful to watch. We’re going to run out of active players.

Geez, nothing here about Manning? Especially when someone upthread was talking about how SF would pants him? And then he not only broke Favre’s record, he made it look so easy that he only had to play three quarters.

I thought it was hilarious when his teammates played keep-away with the record-setting football.

Crossover alert: If it had been an episode of law and Order, or Castle, or CSI, Manning would have been murdered before the game, and Favre would have been the chief suspect, because his record would have been broken, and obviously he jealously guards his record.

TV writers really don’t understand sports people, do they?

Manning breaks a new record every week. I love the guy, but frankly I only cared this time because this one was Favre’s (fuck that dude).

The keep-away thing was hilarious. Especially because Manning played along. I will say, though, that I don’t like it when games are stopped to announce a record. The record is incidental; wait until the end.

A couple more games like that and I [might even win that bet I didn’t quite make five years ago](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=546308&highlight=mccoy&page=2). After Sunday, McCoy’s career QB rating is 76.1; Sam Bradford’s is 79.3 😃

The most prescient quote from that thread?

Poor Rams. Wrong set of players and wrong CBA to have that particular draft pick. At least they’ve looked decent-ish this year.

I did too, until I learned that not only did he ask them to do that, he actually had them practice it ahead of time. That’s…tacky.

Man, Deadspin ruins everything. Though Manning [says](http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on-football/24760525/peyton-manning-planned-keepaway-gag-with-teammates-last-week) it wasn’t quite as orchestrated as all that.

Not really ballsy, they have done it 5 times with Hekker. The man has a 4 of 5 completions for 60 yards and 1 TD and a 156 career QB rating. 🙂

The punt fakeout with Austin and Bailey was a thing of beauty. They fooled the camera, they fooled the gunners, they even fooled the punter who kicked the damn ball!

Yeah, really ballsy.

Even if you assume an 80% likelihood of success (which I wouldn’t), that means 20% chance of the play failing, the Rams almost certainly losing, and Fisher being crucified in the media. If they punt it away, they still probably lose, but the criticism directed at Fisher personally would be much less.

When you are 1-5 (and probably actually not that bad), you try things you might not try if you are not coming up short all the time. Years ago, I remember seeing the FG kicker for a struggling team catch a TD pass on a trick play. “Ballsy” is when it works, “desperate” is when it fails.
