Awful play by the Wings tonight. The hustle was there, but way too many turnovers. I agree with wolfman’s sentiment regarding the shootouts. We have so many goal scorers and skilled players, I don’t understand why we consistently struggle… ---

Say what you want about Detroit, but the Leafs played one of their best games in a long time. In fact, that was just about as perfect of a game as you can get. Of coarse I’m still waiting for the wheels to fall off as usual. ---

I am really quite curious/ concerned as to the cause of the NHL mumps outbreak. Granted, it isn’t just the NHL having an issue. According to the CDC there were 438 cased in the US in 2013. There have been over 1,000 from Jan. 1 to Nov. 1 2014. ETA: According to the Pens team doctor Crosby, the latest to come down with mumps, had received a booster before going to Sochi. ---

We may have lost last night, but damn, that was one hell of a game. I hope they use Farnham more often – dude is a beast! I think if they had pulled Griess and put Fleury in the net for the shootout, we might have swung it, Fleury’s always been great in shootouts. Apparently, the MMR shot is ~99% effective, it’s possible that he’s in that percentile. I haven’t heard how many of the others were vaccinated or not. ---

Oilers [fire Dallas Eakins](http://espn.go.com/nhl/story/_/id/12032294/edmonton-oilers-fire-dallas-eakins). I almost feel sorry for Oilers fans, almost. The team is stuck trying to fix past problems and they keep making it worse. All those high draft picks and nothing. Time to blow up the whole thing. ---

Eakins was supposed to be the next great coach. His work with The Marlies was very successful, and when Ron Wilson was fired it was assumed that Eakins was going to step in. I don’t know what’s wrong with The Oilers. I certainly loved them back in the day. It’s been suggested they need more veterans in the mix. I dunno. ---

The Oilers have to clean house entirely. The entire management structure needs to be replaced top-to-bottom. For years it’s been a cosy gentleman’s club for retired Oilers. It appears as though they’re in complete denial about how bad the team is. They need an outsider running the show who’s willing to admit that the team is terrible and has little prospect of improving, and then do whatever’s necessary to make them a decent team again.
