NHL October 2013 Regular Season

Bwawwwkkk!

Yeah, I remember his fight. with Marc Staal.

Poor Staal, he really got thrashed. :stuck_out_tongue:

I love having Semin, but I still make fun of the 5 year old girl fight move.

And the Canes beat the Flyers, go to 1-1. I’m impressed that the team didn’t collapse when the Flyers scored.

Looks like the Flyers are firing Peter Laviolette. Firing a coach after three games in a marathon season makes no sense. Either fire him after the previous season or at least wait until a quarter of the season.

It is the new record. The Habs sacked Jacques Demers 4 games into the season in 1995.

Who are the going to find to replace him who is better? Craig Berube? You have to be kidding me.

That’s gotta be an interim placement. Lindy Ruff? Ron Wilson? Jacques Martin?

Ruff just hired as the Stars coach, and Marin just got hired as the Pen’s assistant coach. Wilson is available.

Man. I gotta start paying attention. :smack:

Berube was on The Fan 590 this afternoon. He is quite obviously out of his depth.

Of course I guess the Flyers must by definition improve, since they will sooner or later win a game, but what the hell they’re doing in Philadelphia, I cannot imagine. If the GM fires the coach 3 games in, the GM should be fired.

Out of his depth? 86 games as a head coach in the AHL (going 49-29-1), then 5 years as the main assistant on a NHL team (where he ran the PK). Don’t know how much more experience you want to have (short of being a NHL head coach previously). Despite his NHL proclivities as a meathead/possible racist, he’s much more of an organized team system and a X’s and O’s type of guy. Apparently.

And the GM isn’t really the one calling the shots there. Not that it’ll save him with Hextall lurking in the next office over.

A couple of ugly goalie nights: Lundqvist and mike Smith both get pulled while Tim Thomas comes down with an injury.

And the Leafs are no longer undefeated. :frowning:

Man, I’m loving the Jacques Martin influenced Pens so far – flashes of 2009 all over the place. They’re cycling again, collapsing around the net on both sides of the ice, everyone is playing responsibly and backchecking, they’re far more patient on the breakouts, etc. And although the numbers don’t reflect it, there’s hints that this could be a monster season for Malkin. The new schemes suit his defensive skill set perfectly, and when he’s out there he controls the entire tempo of the ice, it’s like everything is in slowmo around him.

Of course it’s early still, and they’ve played three bad teams, but it’s everything I’ve been wanting to see for a few years now. Biggest issue is that Sid’s linemates suck and Flower is going to Flower, but it’s a long season, we’ll see.

Also, Maata is f’n awesome, if he keeps it up he’ll be a legit star in a few years. With him, Sid, Malkin, Bennet, Jusi, and Puliot in a few years, Pens are going to be terrifying to play against as they all have insane vision. It’s funny watching Maata and Sid on ice at the same time, as Maata has sprung Sid a few times with perfect breakout passes and Sid had no idea what to do because it’s been so long since he had anyone making plays for him. Will be interesting to see if they keep Maata or send him back to the juniors.

I am curious to see what others think about the new Canadian Olympic sweaters.

They seem a touch generic to me.

They look pretty bland alright, but are we sure these are the real McCoys? I can’t find the story that your picture is associated with.

OK, so it’s legit.

Team Canada, brought to you by Petro-Canada.

All the Olympic jerseys I’ve seem look bland.

Tomas Hertl?

Any one see this goal scored by 19 year old Tomas Hertl of the Sharks? His fourth of the game!

Wow.
