NHL October 2013 Regular Season

Veteran backup goalie Martin Biron retired from hockey. I’m really surprised no team needed a veteran backup. He’d certainly be an improvement in Pittsburgh, Vokun could be out for the year. Chicago could use a better backup than Khabibulin.

It’s great to see the Flames doing so well. I know it probably won’t continue for too much longer, but I’m appreciating it while I can.

There’s talk that Vokoun could be out for good. :frowning:

The Canes AHL team signed Rick DiPietro to and Injured Reserve Tryout contract today.

That woudl suck about Vokoun.

Ya know. The Leafs may actually have a contending team this year. I’ve been somewhat surprised at their accomplishments thus far. They have two goalies who are potential starters.

Kessel has been lighting it up.

I hope I don’t jinx them at this point, but they’re playing some really decent hockey.

Semyon Varlamov arrested on domestic violence chargess

Second-degree kidnapping, third-degree assault – yikes.

I’m going to just open my eyes again in January in the hopes that whatever the hell’s going on with the Senators has fixed itself.

I guess Roy really can teach what he knows.

Hey Ottawa announcer Dean Brown, do you think you could possibly stop using the term “shovels the puck?”

“He shovels it in.”
“He shovels it over.”
“He shovels it across.”
“He shoveled it up.”
“He shoveled it down.”

What in the hell is that all about?

Worst announcer ever.

I’m just glad “spin-o-rama” has died out a lot. About three year ago every hockey announcer and highlightist tried to work it into any possible sentence, and it made me stabby.

On other announcer news, Come on Fox Detroit, bring back Larry as backup Mickey. Chris Osgood is the least interesting color man in broadcast history.

Worst announcer ever? Clearly you have not listened to any Dallas Stars broadcasts.

The Stars play-by-play man and colour commentator, Ralph Strangis and Darryl Reaugh, are among the best is the business. They have great chemistry and will tell it like it is. Now, the intermission and post game show on radio are terrible, I will grant you that, but the game is called at the highest possible level.

I can’t agree. They often get so involved in some off-topic conversation that they forget to call the plays. I know it’s television and they don’t have to describe every little thing, but it would be nice if they gave some indication that they were watching the game. Yes, the intermission show on TV is horrifyingly worse, but I do not enjoy the broadcasts at all.

Maybe I spent too many years in LA listening to Bob Miller (and Vin Scully and Chick Hearn) and I’m just too picky. Since moving to Texas I have follwed the Rangers and the Stars. The Rangers broadcasters are pretty good. Last year and the year before I thought the Stars guys were a little off but competent; they seem to have gotten worse during the summer.

I know a lot of people really like Reaugh, and I have no idea why. Maybe he was better in the past? The Wikipedia entry on Reaugh suggests that he has a broad vocabulary and makes up clever sayings. This has not been my experience. Why do you think Strangis and Reaugh are good, Ike?

Did I kill the thread?

There’s a November thread now.

Thanks! I was too stoopid to see October in the thread title. Duh.
