Okay. I’m going to try to continue to be polite here. I posted speculation in a sports thread. That’s the way these work. I’m curious as to why you felt the need to essentially call everyone to task for guessing wrong when noone else in the thirteen pages that came before felt the need to do so. Is it not enough that your team won the cup? Do you feel the need to call everyone on to the carpet to apologize for slandering your team?

If that is the case, don’t hold your breath.

**Guin** I got a Lemieux jersey for Christmas about two years ago. Shouldn’t be hard to find. I’d look at Dick’s and then online.

I think what I cited was a tad more than just “predictions.” Hey, I know that it hurts when you think your team is the shit and the championship is more or less their birthright. But if you want to run down the other team or pretend that they were impotent even in the games they won, you’ve got to expect to take some lumps when you’re proven wrong. Sometimes you just have to man up and grin and bear it.

Or not.

There were accusations of “poaching” and Malkin being “overated”…

However, with “the flower” and “maxine” stepping up…

Doesn’t say so much for the wings…

I’ve already offered my congratulations and was the first to do so. Your behavior in this thread is more than celebratory and your demands that people “man up” are rude. You’re behavior is that of a sore winner.

His surname quite literally means “flowered”, so the nickname is rather obvious, if unoriginal. Guy Lafleur had the same nickname, I think.

Sigh… I was at a 50th birthday party in a rented hall. And although the game was on in the background, we had no sound and I could only keep one eye on the T.V. for a minute here, and a minute there.

I’m glad Pittsburgh won. I would not have been unpleased if Detroit had won though. Pittsburgh has had a chance to build the team with great draft picks after finishing low in the standings for a number of years. Detroit has had to rely on scouting, coaching, and player development since they have not had a bad season in quite some time. (Holy crap, they’ve been 1st or 2nd in their division going back to 1991-1992!)

Congratulations Penguins, but Detroit is one first-class organization whom I totally respect.

oh, and one thing I can’t stand.
Any original 6 team and their ballooned stanley cup championship totals.

there were 6 freaking teams in the NHL until 1967. Odds are you’d win a few cups with only 5 teams to compete against.

and I’ll bet Hossa is feeling like the biggest jackass in the NHL. It’s one thing to leave the Pens via free agency, but to turn down that big contract to sign a one year deal to win a cup and lose to the Pens has to sting in a way that I can’t even imagine.

Oh, and is it a requirement for everyone on the Red Wings to have red hair?
Hossa’s a free agent again. I wonder if he comes back to Pittsburgh

I didn’t catch that, but I did hear the two F-bombs. First, one player hoisted the Cup and yelled, “Fuckin’ A!” Another, when asked how he felt, replied, “I can’t fuckin’ believe it.” My friend in the Burgh said on the phone, “Yeah, but it’s hockey; no repercussions. If football players did that, oh noes think of the children, and they’d probably have a press conference to apologize. But no one cares if hockey players cuss.”

Also, Mario is still hot after all these years. Perhaps even more so.

Also also, I loved the team handshakes. Hossa was totally humbled. I can just imagine his former teammates greeting him: “Shoulda stayed with us…Shoulda stayed with us…Shoulda stayed with us…”

Well the League made it what they wanted to be. Lets ignore the number of men of the ice , and we might as well ignore the icing rule when it helps the golden child.

How many interference penalties were called in the average regular season game. Against the Pens in the playoffs? Oh wait, what is that, is knocking down a guy while the puck is 21 feet away bad? Oh I’m sorry the rules are malleable by team

Congrats to Shitsburgh, you bought this one be sucking this ass off the chrome pipe of fecal incompetence in 2003 and finding the golden turd, Bettman better enjoy it now, cause I hope there is a hell for fixers.

Figured that, but c’mon. It’s like poor Jiri “happy” Hudler. Doesn’t exactly say hockey player.

[/QUOTE]
I’m almost with you here. The officiating I saw during the entirety of the playoffs is some the worst in recent memory. The league needs to finally take a hard look at the discrepancy in calls in the playoffs vs. the regular season and draw a clear, consistent line for both seasons.’

And you lost me. No point in being a sore loser.

This series was not fixed. As I said earlier, the refs were scared to be viewed as influencing the outcome so they opted for the myth of “letting the players play.” Pittsburgh simply played a better game than Detroit, particularly in the last two games.

In the first home games, you could easily make the case that the better team lost. Pittsburgh outshot Detroit and carried the play better at the Joe. In Pittsburgh, the reverse was true. Detroit did a better job of carrying the play, but couldn’t finish. Game five was an aberration. Detroit certainly played it’s best game while Pittsburgh played their worst. In six and seven, Detroit started timidly (a season long problem) and Pittsburgh took full advantage. Pittsburgh did a good job of clogging the middle of the ice, and Detroit wasn’t able to create the room they needed to generate many good scoring chances.

So, it’s the fault of the refs that Detroit lost, is it? Boy, oh boy.
