Devils take 3-2 series lead. Next up Ducks vs. Sharks.
Next up Tigers on TV.
I stopped predicting the Wings series as I was jinxing them into early exits. Now I merely evaluate both teams and let the goals fly where they may.
And Columbus made game 4 far too interesting for my tastes. I understand they had some goals saved up from the previous three games, but c’mon. In the end it was just too many bad penalties and a handful of bad bounces that did them in.
Now I hope that Sharks/Ducks goes the full seven games. Give Ozzie a chance to heal or be determined to be too injured to play. Not that I want Conklin in net, but better him than a struggling to move goalie.
I am watching way. too. much. hockey.
Since the Habs are out, I don’t know who to cheer for anymore.
Since I know nothing of the other teams, players and stats, I have to make up reasons to cheer teams on.
I like Anaheim, despite the creepy squirrely goalie, and the Sharks have a stupid logo and colour, admitedly a silly reason. On the other hand, they have a player named Cheechoo which is just so many levels of awesome, it just might make up for the severe fashion offenses. I hate the particular shade of red that the Wings have, though that’s also a silly reason to not like a team.
I’m inclined to root for the teams with goalies named Marty, because I think it’s funny that “Martin” seems too hard to say in English and I’m currently composing a hilarious little jingle to the tune of the “Do you eat the red ones last?” Smarties commercials from the 80s. Well, I think it’s hilarious. My husband rolls his eyes at me.
I really should be studying for my final exams.
But there’s Hockey. And funny names.
WTF?? A 4.0 earthquake? I need an update from the locals.
4.0? That’s nothing really is it? It’s like an Ottawa Senators earthquake, metaphorically speaking.
ETA: And where?
Anaheim. It didn’t disrupt the game.
Sharks down 2-0.
They had to replace a glass pane.
Quite a pane in the glass.
Especially since the Ducks scored a goal right after that timeout.
Doesn’t look good for the Sharks. Down 3-0 at Anaheim, 4 minutes left in 3rd. Looks like their going to a do or die situation next game.
QUACK!!! QUACK!!! QUACK!!! QUA… dammit. Timeout.
(Echo provided by myself)
So whatever happened to the rule that I thought was implemented this year about "fights being initiated after the “final score” was already decided? (i.e, a 7-2 score with 2 min left in the 3rd?) Or did I just have one beer too many?
I thought this was a new playoff rule. Not that it applies here, but what?
Oh, and an empty net: QUACK!!!
Quack indeed. Sharks outlook, grave.
I, as a Red Wings fan, would typically be overjoyed at the prospect of the #1 conference seed being eliminated. But, after 3 games of the Good Osgood, Regular Season Osgood decided to show up last night, and Conklin wasn’t any better. I fear what will happen against a better team than Columbus with this sort of inconsistent/mediocre goaltending.
And as an aside, isn’t it rather sad seeing Chris Chelios as the odd man out, healthy scratch after healthy scratch for like 2 months now? It’s like Johnny U in 1973, with a lightning bolt on his helmet, playing out the string on a crap team (hell, at least Unitas got to play some).
Good day for Ducks fans…a convincing thrashing of the Sharks with Ryan providing two harpoon jabs right between their eyes. Listening today on NHL Network on XM204, I learned more about Bobby Ryan, primarily that he was a So-Cal hockey player and that my oldest son might have played against him a couple of times!
He played very well for the first 3 pressure packed games. Then as Redmond pointed out ,he played hurt in game 4. If that is true, he has nearly a week to recover. I do not think he should have played game 4 at all. It would have been a good time to season Conklin. They said the Wings brought in a new goalie from the minors. He could have gotten his skates wet too.
The Red Wing site does not show a rookie goalie on the roster. I was sure Redmond said that last night.
I think they only brought him in so they could do a full scrimmage in practice while Osgood rested up. I’m pretty sure they never put him on the roster.
I just got home.
Had to post this:
C-A-P-S-CAPS!CAPS!CAPS!!!
It was a great game!
I’ve been watching hockey for 30 years, and I think Alex Ovechkin is my all time favourite player.
I have never seen such a talented player who tries so damn hard. He is going at absolute full tilt every moment he’s on the ice. If he has the puck he wants to score. If he doesn’t have the puck he wants to knock over the opposing player who has it, and THEN score. If neither is an option he’ll just plow someone over anyway, or make a block, or do something. There is not a moment on the ice that he is not going somewhere, to do something, with the urgency and speed of a man running away from a lion.
Sidney Crosby is phenomenally talented but when he gets knocked down he gets up and starts whining. When Ovechkin is knocked down, he seems to think, “Perhaps I can score while lying on my stomach / being thrown backwards / sliding on my ass. It certainly can’t hurt to try.” Or he just gets up… and then he scores.
Did you see Ovechkin’s goal? AMAZING!!! Footwork, stickwork, just damn good offense!
Made the #1 slot on plays of the day on Versus.
And what about the second goal? Dude got that on what looked like to me about a 5 degree angle on goal! WHOA!!!
So I stop watching the Penguins game when the Flyers are up 3-0 to flip on the NFL draft - big mistake. Nice work by the Pens with a nifty goal by Crosby for the tie. The Pens will need to pick it up for their next opponent but they certainly appear to be a tough out.
But I don’t really care about the Pens. What the hell Calgary!?! Did you accidentally dress the players wives or something?
