Right…you have 5% of the world’s population and 25% of the worlds prison population, your crime stats when compared to other first-world countries are nothing to write home about in most cases and dreadful in others. The incarceration rate would be immaterial if there was proof that it was working but…does it?
Unfortunately it appears we’d need to increase our prison population by a factor of 5 to get up to you guys and we can’t build prisons that fast. Anyway. Our murder rate is far lower than yours as it is and crime overall is falling so we seem to be doing something right.
